home invasion in my neighborhood
http://www.nbc30.com/news/15939210/detail.html?dl=mainclick
as if I'm not paranoid enough over all of the home invasions this past year, this one happened less than a mile from my house - so scary
I can't wait til we are in a new house because we are getting a security system - I want one now but DH doesn't want to invest another penny into this house - so I'm left with just a bat by the bed...
Re: home invasion in my neighborhood
wtf? that's just insane.
ugh so scary.
Yeah, I dont get this one at all. He only broke into a screen door and didnt even attempt to enter into the rest of the house.
My money is on the fact that this dude was looking for, and doing, drugs.
just got an email from a retired teacher and it was her sister's house!
I guess the guy was drunk and he was just sitting in the sunroom with a gun. He aimed it at the owner of the house. The owner remained calm and sensed he was drunk so he told him to leave because they had to go to church.
The perp actually listened and left and was running through the neighborhood until the police dog tracked his scent and they found him.
When the police found and tasered him - the perp shot himself in the head. They took him by lifestar but I haven't heard if he is still alive yet.
MJP - I didn't realize where Cranberry was until my friend told me - that is way too close to my house - literally a few streets over!
Jenn - I am paranoid all the time! Doors are locked at all times, windows are locked at all times, and if windows have to be opened I use the saftey latches or whatever they are so that the windows can only open a few inches.
I sleep with the bedroom door locked, my phone and cellphone by the bed, and a bat. I find myself playing out different scenarios in my head and figuring out what I would do to save myself/DH.
DH thinks I'm nuts - but there are too many sickos in this world. It's scary.
Honestly I would put some kind of security system in
1. increase value of your home
2. save $$$ on your home owners insurance up to 20%
3. you can make a deal with adt to install it and when you move you can transfer you contract over.
how do I know this... I worked with ADT for 5 years and we did alot of situations like this with owners in the selling process.
I think it is worth it for your piece of mind. I would rather pay $$$ for my spouse and family to live than to pay $$$ for medical or their funeral.
My dh works for the state in the court system so I do know what is out there and to have something to either deter them away is a good thing.
At least do this ~ find someone you know that has a security system and see if they can ask for some signs or stickers ~ sounds funny I know but it does work ~ I worked in the security field for over 10 years and it really did prove to deter criminals especially the quick fix ones
be safe and good thoughts coming your way

Ugh, how awful.
I have a cheap home security suggestion for you if you want it - those cheap wooden baby gates you can get at Walmart. After the Chesire invasion, I had one built in and one cheapo one stacked at the top of our stairs. I could still get to Jillie/the bathroom but there is no way anyone was getting through two stacked gates before I woke up, called the cops and barricaded us behind a locked door.
Sounds silly, but until I did this, I wasn't sleeping at night and it held me over until we moved.
