Doubletree downtown hotel, bad area or no?

I am thinking of booking this hotel thru priceline. Is it in a bad area in downtown columbus or no? Some of the reviews are saying that area has a lot of scary people and homeless, but are they just exaggerating that its bad?

Re: Doubletree downtown hotel, bad area or no?

  • Probably depends on your perspective - it is a downtown urban area, so yes there are homeless.  I don't know if I would call them scary, though.  I've heard it's a nice hotel, but have never stayed there myself.  It's not like it's in the middle of crack dens and whore houses, it's just urban.
  • It's a fine area. Maybe there are homeless people around (I've never noticed any) but that doesn't bother me. My grandmother stayed there this fall and enjoyed it.
  • Ditto pp, it's not a bad area per se - it's just right smack in the middle of downtown so you have the typical downtown type stuff. I've stayed there several times though, mostly for weddings, and it's a great hotel in close proximity to the Arena district and COSI.
