I started my job back in December and at first it seemed like a place I could stay for a long time. Now that I'm 5 months in, I just don't like my job anymore.
I work for a cleaning and restoration company, the kind of place that rebuilds and cleans after a flood or fire. My position is front desk clerk, I get the first calls from homeowners and insurance adjusters. I don't mind my job so much as I mind the negativity from the owners and management. I can't do anything without them jumping on my case.
On Friday I got called "incompetent" and was told that I "couldn't think ahead" by one of the owners. This was all due to me taking a message for a customer that only wanted help from her Project Manager, not me. I did what I thought was the best in the situation and left the message for him and waited for further instruction. The owner got her hands on the message and blew up at me in front of 6 other people without knowing the full extent of what the message entailed. After she went off on me, I did exactly what she wanted me to do with the message and it blew up in her face. She came to me a couple hours later with a box of cookies and an apology. I couldn't even look her in the face I was so upset.
I decided that now is as good a time as any to apply at the bakery I want to work for, even apprentice at... I sent them a letter and am waiting for a response. I can't wait to get out of here, I may have free benefits but it's not worth being stomped on.
