Where should we live?

I recently was accepted to Stony Brook School of Dental Medicine and my DH works in Flushing Queens. Currently we are living in Queens but will be moving at the end of June. We are just starting to think about where we should move and would love some suggestions. Ideally we will split the commute between Flushing and Stony Brook. Are there any areas in the middle that people would recommend. Also if I decide to take the Port Jefferson LLRR to Stony Brook for school, are there any places along that line that would especially good for us to live? Also are there any areas that we should avoid. Any advice or suggestions would be great. Thanks!!!?

Re: Where should we live?

  • I totally understand your plight....I'm from Freeport but my hubby then boyfriend at the time was living in Brooklyn..There really isn't a sweet point for both of you.  your hubby can always transfer in jamaica and take the regular subway.

Halfway for him and you could be (Nassau) Syosset. Good luck and Congrats

  • Thanks for replying... we are going to spend this weekend driving around the "middle" area so see what some of our different options are. I have been checking out some real estate listings around Syosset, but so far nothing has seemed great and it looks like there is not a lot of hope for DH to transfer.?
  • You may want to look in DIx Hills or the Huntington area.  That should be the middle point between the 2 commutes!
  • Thanks for the ideas. We are currently looking at Huntington and Westbury.?
  • Huntington might be your best bet--Commack and Dix Hills wouldn't be too far either.  I suggest Huntington because it's a pretty easy place to commute from--you can grab the Pt Jeff Line to Npt, which I think will hook up, or he can snag the train westbound and do the "normal" LI commute.  HTHs.
  • look at huntington village.  take jericho tpk to 110 north past the train station and into town - cute area

  • most of the residents I used to work with who had to rotate in Nassau and out at Stonybrook lived in Huntington or Commack. GL
  • I live about 5 minutes from Stony Brook - in South Setauket.  The commute via train is horrible from that line -- and the Ronkonkoma one is much quicker to queens.  (Ronkonkoma is about 10-15 minutes south).  The commute East isn't draining -- but the commute west is horrendous sometimes.  I bring my daughter to school every morning 30 minutes away (the old district since we just moved to setauket) -- and today b/c of the rain and two police cars pulling someone over, it took over an hour.
