venue for family reunion

Hi everyone. ?I live in San Jose so I'm hoping to get some help from you San Diego nesties.

My family is starting to plan a big family reunion in the San Diego for July of 2009, to get everyone together to celebrate my great-uncle's 80th birthday and my grandmother's 90th. ?We'd like a pretty low-cost, but still nice, event - maybe at a community center with a lawn or a view or something like that, where we can have it catered by a local BBQ place or something fun but not too expensive. ?We're not trying to make it wedding-like. ? There will be about 40 to 80 people, including elderly people and kids age 2 to 13.

Any suggestions??

Thank you!?

  • I don't know how much they cost, but you might look into the La Jolla Cove Bridge Club and the La Jolla Women's Club. You'd definitely get a beautiful view with both of these places. Good luck!
  • Mission Bay is a great spot.  It is down the street from Sea World and easily accessible from the 5 freeway.  There is an area for kids, water sports, you can bring bikes, there are grassy areas and public restrooms etc.  I think you just need to show up early to claim your spot.

Phils BBQ and Bar None are some of better known caterers:

  • I replied to your post on the Knot, but thought I would post here as well.  The Coronado Community Center is worth checking out.
  • I second the Coronado Community Center, I had my baby shower there! it's a great location and the price is great! It does book early, now would be the perfect time to start looking into it! hth.

  • Check out different city's senior centers. They give discounts for groups like that (celebrating a senior's bday). Not sure what part of town you are looking for? Where does your family live?

  • Do you know what part of town everyone will be staying in?  Hotel rooms can be very scarce and expensive in July (usually the 3rd weekend) since ComicCon is in town.

Have you considered the Zoo???  You could even do a nice picnic at Balboa Park.
