Moving to the Richmond area
I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on the Richmond area. My husband was offered a job in Midlothian...we're coming from Ohio and have never been there before. Anything you can tell me about the area (is it more upscale/rural/low-income? weather? cost of living? schools?) would be really helpful!!
Thanks!
Re: Moving to the Richmond area
Are you speaking of the Midlothian area? Bc the Richmond metro area runs the gamet.
Midlothian is the suburbs, in terms of Chesterfield it is more upscale the farther west in Midlothian. The schools in this area are considered very good too. Midlothian is right on 288 so you are very close to the west end of Richmond which is very popular and then if you want more rural you are closer to Powhatan.
Cost of living.. housing is cheaper in Chesterfield or for that matter South of the River relatively. Midlothian as a whole though is higher for Chesterfield.
Just my thoughts.
Ditto to everything 2beJCrews said and here are my thoughts:
I am from Chesterfield, so grew up around the Midlothian area. It's safe generally, and I'd said middle to upper middle income. Definitely not low income on the whole, but I wouldn't say it's the higher income area as a whole either (however there are certain neighborhoods in Chesterfield with very large, expensive homes,etc...just fewer of them than for example in the West End). So I personally kind of identify an area that's generally upper income as a whole with the West End if that makes sense. Schools are decent/average, not as good as Northern Virginia schools in general (a lot of award winners up there); however, there are still many good options. Weather is the same as most of Central Virginia with all the seasons and whatnot, not a ton of snow usually (although every 10 years or so there seems to be a big snow storm..had a big one this year). People do tend to have bad allergies in Virginia, I will admit that, lol. But it's nothing allergy medicine can't handle usually. Cost of living in central VA/Chesterfield is great. It's much lower than a lot of other areas in Virginia, and I agree with 2be that the housing prices in Chesterfield are lower than some other areas for the same size or even sometimes a larger home so that is a huge perk of the area in my opinion. Let us know if you have any other questions, I hope this helps some!
Yaaay, go Hoos!! Nice to see another Hoo around here!
