Phoenix Coyotes Bankruptcy & Sale?!
I just heard this while watching playoff coverage of the Blackhawks and Canucks game...supposedly the owner of Blackberry already put in an offer but wants to move the team to Southern Ontario???

Re: Phoenix Coyotes Bankruptcy & Sale?!
What?! Wasn't Wayne Gretzky a partial owner of the Coyotes? (That may have been awhile ago....)
I can see the team leaving Phoenix (it just seems somehow wrong to me to have an ice hockey team in a perpetually warm weather area like Phoenix), but I can't imagine the NHL okaying a move to Ontario when the Maple Leafs are already in Toronto.

Hamilton would be interesting considering the Hamilton Bulldogs have a pretty good following in the AHL. Quebec City too...I was surprised when QC didn't last in the A after their stint in 2002 or so.
Don't forget the Ottawa Senators are in Ontario also. But Ontario is the largest Province in Canada in terms of population, so they just might have the fan base to support another team there.
I think it's sad that the Coyotes could be moved
While they are in financial trouble it's still somebodies favorite team and there are season ticket holders out there who are going to be crushed if the team moves. I know that it's a business and everything, so you have to go to where the money is, but many other teams have had financial trouble and survived and thrived!
I think a team will be granted to Hamilton in the next few years, but I wonder what that will do to the Buffalo Sabres? I know they draw from that market, so it will have an impact.
I am not a fan of Mr. Basillie, the way he handled the Predators awhile back was just not right. I know he wants a team in Hamilton and wants to own a team, but he isn't following the right path to do so. It'll be interesting to see what happens.
I think depending on the economy they could make it work and consider it a built in geographical rivalry. In the AHL there were this year 3 teams in eastern PA (Hershey Bears, WBS Pens, and Philadephia Phantoms) with Binghamton Senators right across the state line being only a few hours from the 3 PA teams. It made for some nice rivalries and meant that fans could do road trips to see their team on the road.
It's definitely going to be interesting to see what transpires.
He has been trying to get a team for Hamilton for a while.
If he bought the Penguins that is where they would have gone.
He was showing interest in quite a few southern teams that are not doing so well?financially. ?
