Those with Granite counters: Are they all sealed?

I thought that all counters were sealed, but maybe not?  I bought that simply green cleaner and it says to only use it on sealed Granite, so I don't want to ruin the counters if there is a chance they aren't sealed.  I think they are though.

Re: Those with Granite counters: Are they all sealed?

  • They're sealed, but you have to re-seal them once or twice a year.  There is a kit available that comes with a cleaner/sealer - you can get it at HD or Lowes as well as any place that sells granite.  If you haven't sealed them in a while - I would do that before you use the simple green on it.  However, unless your counters are black, I wouldn't use anything with any kind of die in it - I would recommend vinegar and water or the Windex Vinegar.  I was told that anything with any color in it could stain the counters over time.
  • oh wow, I didn' tknow that.  I use a soap and water combo to clean the counters, they are not black though.  That's what the granite guy told me to use.  I just always hear different opinions.

  • Soap and water is perfect.  I use that as well.  I just meant that if you wanted to use a stronger cleaner - like the Simple Green you mentioned - I'd stay away from anything that has die in it - Simple Green is very green.  Use something clear like vinegar and water - or the Windex with Vinegar in it.

The granite guy didn't give you a cleaner/sealer kit when you had the counters installed?  Or were the counters already in the house?
