Surprise Vaca and a ?

We had been talking about going to FL to visit K's g-pa for a while now, but the timing hasn't been right.  By some miracle, we both got a week of work off (the SAME week).  So weird.  Anyway- I told Katie and she bought us plane tickets :)  So- we're going on vacation in a few days!  We haven't had a real vacation in six years.  Yay!

 But-

I would really feel better about going to FL if we had medical POA, but we're leaving really soon.  Is it possible to have that done before Saturday?  I looked a little online, but I think I'm missing something.  Do you just have to have it notorized?  Do we need a doctor or lawyer or anything? *confused*  TIA!

Re: Surprise Vaca and a ?

  • This is just my opinion, but don't try to rush any legal paperwork.  My medical POA was simple and was done in a few days....but it did take time and thought.  So if you have a lot going on, I'd say don't stress on this. If you can dedicate the next 3 days to it and really want it then go for it.  Again, just my 2 cents.

Have fun! I don't know about a quickie POA. We had ours done by an attorney.

Where in FL are you going??

  • Is there something in particular you are concerned about that's leading you to think you need a POA for this trip? If not, I'd probably wait till after.

If you do decide to do something online to have it quick, Suze Orman has one in her Will & Trust Kit (http://tinyurl.com/2jvmpf), which is free online with a "gift code" (you can email me for it if you'd like: twb2008 at gmail.com). I haven't looked at it, but I am guessing it might be sufficient for the week or until you can get to a lawyer.

  • We're going to Fort Myers (to visit Grandpa) and Busch Gardens in Tampa Bay :)

I honestly didn't think there was much to consider... I thought it was "sign here" type of thing. Of course, chances are that nothing will happen, but I tend towards paranoia.  I can't believe we've been together for eight years and still haven't had this done!

  • Oh yeah, I forgot about Suz!  Der.

No, I have no reason to worry, other than my nature as a hard- core and constant worrier.  Neither of us have any health conditions, we're safe drivers, and we'll be there less than a week.  You just hear so many horror stories about how Floridians treat the gays...  I guess this should be my kick in the pants to get it done when we get home!
