What brought you to VA? Clicky Poll

Re: What brought you to VA? Clicky Poll

  • I had an old Honda Civic that my mom and I packed up with all my possessions including the black cat in my siggy. We drove from MN to VA and along the way the break pads on my car ground down to nothing in the mountains of PA. We found a great mechanic who put on new ones the very next day! My car was in danger of overheating so we had to pull over and let it cool about every 10 minutes or so on the beltway around DC. That traffic is nuts!

We were very glad to arrive at our destination in one piece!

  • I'm kinda between two of your choices.  DH's job moved him here, and since long distance marriage sucks, I came too.

  • Born and raised here (Hampton Roads), went to Tech, and now I'm back in the HR area.
  • I was born and raised here too. I thought for the longest time I would leave the state, but now I'm quite content here.
  • I live in Richmond now, my family moved to VA (Lexington) when I was 14. I actually met my DH when we were both in high school, his family moved to VA the same year mine did but they came to Richmond. I went to Tech, and he went to VCU (we weren't dating at the time). Then I decided I needed a change, and moved to New Orleans to go to Tulane for grad school. Right before I left, we hooked up and did the long distance thing for 2 years. I moved back here to be with him since he was already established here and had a good job. In the next year we'll both be finishing grad school and probably moving. We need a change!

  • I tried to vote the dart one, but it won't let me..... I say that one just b/c none of the others really fit totally.... the story is that DH and I grew up in MD (outside DC). I went to nursing school at Shenandoah Univ. in Winchester, and fell in love with the mtn area of VA (as did hubby). But wasnt' ready to move ther after school, since now hubby was still in school near Baltimore, so moved there, got a job as a nurse, DH got a job as a Elem. school teacher after graduating, and got married. But always said we were going to move to Charlottesville within 5 years.  WE have friends who live down here and we always love visiting them, and fell in love with the town.  So in the Fall of 2007, after visiting our friends, we decided we were ready to move (even though it hadn't been 5 years). So we started building a house, I got a nursing job at UVA, hubby got a job as a teacher and we moved down here last summer..... and have not looked back since..... Never relized how much I was disliking living in Baltimore, or my past job, till we were down here.

  • I have lived here most of my life ... I actually moved across country for love once, but decided to come back home bc I felt he was not ready to settle down and I had a family situation come up.  I thought it was the biggest mistake until I met my husband.

  • Lived here my whole life..only left for short spurts of a few weeks at a time to visit other places or study abroad. Smile
  • We moved to NoVA in high school so I have been here a while. Moved away, but am married to a Marine so now we are back for one more year.
  • Married to a Sailor and we are so happy the Navy brought us to VA. We plan on making it our home and raising our little ones here.
  • Family moved to Cville years ago and I fell in love with UVa where I eventually went to school and met DH. Been here ever since!
  • My husband's company transferred him and it was a financial bonus we couldn't say no to.
  • I moved here for love because, like you said, long distance does suck!
  • Born & raised in Virginia Beach, just moved to Suffolk, but lived in Hampton Roads all my life.
