DH and I are considering a move late this fall or early spring 09. The first year his income will be much lower than the second and third then level off. We were thinking it would make more sense to rent a house the first year then buy a house that we could afford with the second year of income. I guess that would make more sense than buying a cheaper house then trying to sell it in a year for a larger house. Does that make sense? Anyway, point of the post, can you ladies tell me some of the real estate companies that sell and rent in the Louisville area and also a little about the neighborhoods/cities close to the city? I think I remember seeing that the Crescent, St. Matthews areas were good?
Thanks KY ladies : )
Re: House rental?
Jeffersontown (also known as J-town) is also a nice area of town. That's where I live. It tends to be less expensive than St. Matthews or the Highlands but it really depends on what you are looking for. I would highly recommend renting first. Another bonus to doing that is that you can get a feel for the areas of town and make a better decision about where you want to buy a house when it comes time to do so.
Also, my mom is a real estate agent here in town. She grew up here so she definitely knows the area and although she doesn't do rentals she could give you pointers and info on the various areas of town. Her name is Connie Albrecht and she is with Eline Realty Co. 648-2648.
Good Luck and welcome to Louisville!
Emily
You'll probably get a lot of answers on this one!
I grew up in Louisville in the St. Matthews area, and I loved it. My grandparents live in the east end of Westport Road, and it's also a very nice part of Louisville.
Were I to move back, I'd look in the St. Matthews/Lyndon area, Highlands, Middletown or the east end. It's the area I know best, but I know there are some other areas of Louisville that are just as good, I'm just not as familiar with them.
We look forward to (hopefully!) seeing you on the KY board!
