Does anyone know anything about adopting a child in the state of florida? I'm trying to find out more information but I'm having a hard time getting straight answer.

Re: Adoption Process?
Here are a few sites I found:
http://florida.adoption.com/
http://www.dcf.state.fl.us/adoption/
http://www.adoption.org/adopt/adoption-florida.php
http://www.adoptionflorida.org/
I have no experience with it, but I did have a coworker adopt a baby last October, and she said that the Florida adoption rules are much less strict than other states. She adopted her first child out of state (I want to say Alabama), and she had to stay in the state for 14 days, and there was much more legal action that she had to go through. Her number one rule of advice is to make sure you have a very reputable adoption attorney.
good luck!
My boss went thru an agency and it was AWFUL! She was trying to adopt from China so aside from the fact that China tightened up the agency kept taking their money to the sum of $25K!
She got a GREAT attorney in Deland and no lie had a baby promised to her in two weeks. I'll get his info for you if you'd like.
I also volunteer at a pregnancy center and we have a couple of adoption agencies we refer to...
We are looking for a lawyer to help with the process- and I guess an agency to go through. We've obivously never done this before- but think it's going to be the best option for us right now. I've read through all the websites above- and I'm just a little confused about the process-
do you get an attorney before an agency? whats a good agency? what's a realistic timeline?
One thing you're going to HAVE to do reagardless of which route you take is have a Homestudy done. Basically its an extensive background search.
My Boss told me to have you contact this lady. She was AWESOME and explains everything you have to do.
Here's the website: www.adoptionsupportservices.com
Her name is Lori Frass
Phone: 407-366-6436
Email: Lori@adoptionsupportservices.com
She referred my boss to the attorney they used. Here's his info:
Richard "Jake" Jackson
He's in Deland
Email: attorneyjakejackson@yahoo.com
Let me know if you need any more info. I'm sure my boss would be happy to discuss her experiences with you. If they ask who referred you her name is Becky Hinshaw.
Here's my email if you have any more questions:

Good Luck! Keep me posted.
A good friend of mine actually just had her homestudy about 2 weeks ago. But before they could do the home study they went through 12 weeks of parenting/adoption classes..which basically explained the different types of children, she said there was classes that they attended that went through scenarios (where the children are taken from their home bc of parental abuse, or whatever) ....she is adopting an older child, i think 8-9. As far as I know she doesnt have a lawyer.
You could call the state of florida, 1-800-96-ADOPT- I'm sure they would be able to help you get started!
I asked my friend what agency she is using. she said she is using Heartland for Children, they are out of Bartow, in polk county. their website is Heartlandforchildren.org
g/l!
