Cost of swimmers?

I'm looking for an average of what everyone is paying/has paid per vial.  Also, do you know if your bank can send vials to other banks?  We only have 2 donor choices through our bank (Mexican donors) and both are WTBK, we would like an anonymous donor.

The bank we are using charges $360-460 for 1cc of ICI.

Re: Cost of swimmers?

  • We are with Fairfax. We use doctoral sperm, the sperm is around 550 and the tank is 180 so we spend a little over 700 dollars. I do know that the ici vials are a little cheaper and also depends on the bank.
  • We are using CCB. We bought before the prices went up on the first of the year. Now our donor is $590 each for "Premium WTBK IUI" vials.

The rest of the prices start at $390 and are here: http://www.cryobank.com/Services/Pricing/

It looks like they have quite a few Mexican donors.

Those of us looking for specific donors usually just comb through all the banks, but you can also look into http://spermcenter.com/ where you pay a fee to access data from all banks.

Also check with your RE. Ours wanted us to buy ICI samples so they could wash it themselves. They said if we bought IUIs and then they washed it, we could end up with less swimmers. It also saved us money.

  • CT and madison - Midwest is in Chicago, right?  I want to make sure I'm looking at the right one.
  • yup, thats the one. and their shipping charges are very reasonable (ex. i shipped 3 vials from chicago to boston via overnight for $100)
  • wow! I really like the price of the bank CTbride uses. I'm jealous.
  • that's about what ours was, maybe a little less. plus shipping if you're not local (we are, so didn't have any charges for that and i have no idea what they are).
  • I forgot to answer your question about shipping.  Yes - banks will ship out of state.  However your state and/or your doctor might have certain restrictions.  For example, in NY, we can't import any sperm from a bank that is not licensed by the NYS Dept of Health.  Now...the NYS Dept of Health is one of the oldest tissue donation regulators in the country so a good majority of all banks get licensed by them so it wasn't a huge problem.  Also our RE preferred that we chose one of the banks they already work with but it wasn't required.  So check out the rules that might restrict you and then search around.
