Recommend a book for me...

I recently finished reading Oil by Upton Sinclar (There Will Be Blood was supposed to be inspired by this book, but it was nothing like it and I thought the movie was horrible, but the book was really good!)

And I am in the middle of Flesh and Blood by Michael Cunningham (the author of the Hours) but I really am not getting into it so I might just put it down.

Anyway...have any suggestions for some must reads?  I mostly read fiction and I am not into the Harry Potter kind of books.

Thanks in advance!

Re: Recommend a book for me...

  • I just saw the movie the Kite Runner and now I really want to read the book.  I loved the movie and I have heard the book is even better.

I also just read Middlesex for the Knot book club and really enjoyed that.

  • I know this book is "old news" but Eat, Pray, Love is FABULOUS! I cried at the end...because it was over and I wanted to keep reading. My all time favorite is the Great Gatsby by F Scott Fitzgerald :)
  • PS...the little girl in your siggy pic is SOOOO dang cute!
  • A few books that I have enjoyed recently are:

    The Thirteenth Tale

    Water for Elephants

    One Thousand White Women

If you are into funny books then I would suggest

Bitter is the New Black or Bright Lights, Big Ass by Jen Lancaster

My all time favorite book is

The End of the Affair by Graham Greene.

  • I second kite runner (it's sad)

P.S. I love you was great, i laughed and cried a lot.

Eat, Pray, Love was good too

I'm a big Nora Roberts fan so any of her J.D. Robb books are so fun. Try and start with Naked in Death.

  • I really liked Middlesex, it got a little slow in the middle but overall I loved it! I think Water for Elephants in a must read. I couldn't put it down. It was very fun and interesting and kept my attention the entire time. I also really liked A Thousand Splendid Suns. I want to read The Kite Runner once I finish The Glass Castle (which is also very good so far)

  •   I've been enjoying some historical fiction lately (and some non fiction)- The Autobiography of Henry VIII with notes form his fool Will Somner by Margret George.  It's obvioulsy not an actual autobio but I like dit ad it got me itrested enough to start reading some non fictio including findong a copy of hte actual love letters he sent to Anne Boelyn (on display at the Vatican in England) and the Eric Ives book on Anne  which is good but non fiction so it's dry.  Now I'mm reading The Queen of Subtelties by Susanahh Dunn - not sure if it is good yet.
