Re: Anyone know of Round Lake, IL?

  • It depends where in Round Lake you look; so areas are not so great- some spots are actually little ghettos, run down, while others are nicer that they are trying to build up.  I would suggest find the good area of round lake, or look in a neighbooring city- Hainesville, grayslake, volo, gurnee.  I live near round lake so if you need some help I'd be happy.
  • I live in Round Lake, but in a part that is in the Grayslake school district.  My husband's family lives not too far away and he has told me that the Round Lake schools are not very good, but Grayslake, Wauconda, Mundelein, etc. are all good schools.  There's not a ton to do in the immediate area, but there is stuff not too far away - Target in Mundelein about 10 minutes from my house, Gurnee Mills and all the big box stores in Gurnee are about 15-20 minutes away, Grayslake is about 5-10 minutes away and has some cute stores in a downtown area.  My main complaint is that there aren't a lot of restaurants in the immediate area, but that just helps us save some more money each month.  If you have a dog, there are some great dog parks in the county, too.  I currently commute to Chicago, which gets old on a daily basis, but it's nice to have the Metra line closeby if you need it (about an hour and 10 minutes to Union Station).  The main reason we moved here is because we could afford a 3 bedroom house vs. a 1 bedroom condo in the city.  If you want more info, PM me and I'll be happy to share more!

  • Oh, and fyi, Round Lake is nicer than Round Lake Beach or Round Lake Park.  The farther east you are in Round Lake the better, in my opinion, and also the more likely you are to be in the Grayslake school district.

  • I'm in Hainesville and like it a lot.  My neighbors are very friendly and its kid-friendly.  Hainesville has Grayslake schools since the villiage itself only has a population of 3,000.  Cranberry lake is close and has a mulch walking trail.  Also a few forest preserves really are just a 3 min. drive down the road.  Hainesville is closer to the old downtown Grayslake area than a lot of the homes in Grayslake but the housing prices are a little less expensive.  On Saturdays, there is a farmers market I've been going to in downtown Grayslake.  Libertyville isn't too far away and they have another old town area with some tasty restaurants.  Vernon Hills is just a little further and there is a comedy club that gets some good comedians.
  • Round Lake is very up and coming.  A lot of people are moving further from the City for bigger, cheaper houses.  It's going to take a few more years, but it will be just as bustling as some as the older suburbs.  I would just make sure you have a good school district nearby.  I really don't think there is anything to worry about.  Happy moving!
  • We live in Libertyville which isnt too far from Round Lake and we love the neighborhood. Area is very family friendly and in fact every house in our neighborhood has kids. The school district is fantastic here. Our place is in the low $300K and there are two houses on the street which are now in the $250-$275 due to the economy! DH did not like Round Lake so we didnt look there.
