RIP Winnie, my hamster

I thought you guys should know...

Thanks to all of you that provided support when I posted about my hamster a few weeks ago (respiratory infection). I thought you should know that Winnie passed away yesterday while DH and I were away at work. DH and I knew that the time was coming; she just did not seem like herself - was not interested in running on her wheel and had no interest in food or water.

DH spent a good part of today building her a little box and and we just buried her in our backyard under a tree.

We miss Winnie very much, but are happy that she is out of pain and in Hamster Heaven.

Re: RIP Winnie, my hamster

  • I'm so sorry to hear about your hamster! I had one when I was a little girl who passed away the same way and I still think about her from time to time.?
  • I'm sorry to hear about Winnie.  My brother and I had a hamster when we were little too.  His name was Harry (as in Houdini)... he was the master escape artist!!!  He managed to get out of his cage no matter what we did to try and secure it... so he ended up living in a "Charlie's Chip" can because that's the only thing he couldn't climb out of!

  • Awh, darn.  I was hoping for a happy ending :(   At least you did know it was coming and could spend some time with her.  Looks like you had some really nice times together.
  • Hi.  I had responded back when you posted about how I thought that you were such a great pet owner for getting her checked out and caring so much.  Small animals are often thought off as more disposable than a dog or cat and this should not be the case.  I have had pet rats, hamsters, mice etc, and the joy they brought to my life was the same as what I get from my bigger pets.  I have gone through this too, many times, and I am very sorry for your loss.

You are a truly caring person that gave Winnie a great life she almost definitely would not have had otherwise.  I wish more people in the world cared abotu smal animals like you.  Best of luck and I hope maybe you consider giving another small pet a home soon.
