And Baby Makes Four (long, with pics)

Today we came home with Christopher Cadden. He was born on Monday at 2:45 p.m. via a natural VBAC, with a lot of help from DH, our doula, and one of the whirlpool tubs at Manchester Memorial Hospital. Topher weighed 6 lbs, 14.6 ozs and was 19.5 in. long. I have never known such pain in my life. I had these spur-of-the-moment and really loud mantras I'd keep repeating during contractions in what DH just informed me was my "redrum" voice like the kid from The Shining. I feel bad for anyone trying to get some rest on the entire floor. If I had any inhibitions whatsoever (which I don't generally, and sure as h--- didn't then), I'm sure I would've been very embarrassed. Anyway, my labor started at 10:30 p.m. on Sunday (see, the full moon again! I'm going two for two!). We arrived at the hospital around 4 a.m. I got in the tub later in the morning to work through most of active labor and transition. Then I had to get out because I developed a fever (and I wouldn't have been able to deliver in the tub anyway due to VBAC restrictions). Luckily, it was almost time to push anyway. I have no idea how long I pushed for, but out he finally came, leaving me with battle scars in the form of a second degree episiotomy and a bad case of "road rash." Topher looks EXACTLY like Tolby looked when she was born. DH has some kind of dominant genes, that's all I have to say. That would probably explain the baby's bad gas, too ;) We are home now, where Tolby is embracing her new brother with arms more outstretched than I thought they would be, given her disinterest during my entire pregnancy. I think she will turn out to be the best big sister that the little guy could ask for.

Either he's one precocious smiler or that's an indication of the bad gas I mentioned.
