My fiance and I decided we are ready to take the next big step and have a baby! I'm 24 and my fiance is 35 and we feel like it is the right time. Here is where it gets complicated. She wants me to carry her baby. We have started looking into invitro and all the good stuff but it seems like so much information! Has any one done the invitro route vs. artifical insemination?? I need suggestions and direction!!
Re: Just getting started...!
Start reading...some good books are Taking Charge of Your Fertility and The Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians. There are plenty of other books out there too - just read.
Second - call your insurance. Find out exactly what is covered and what is not. My insurance is awesome and if we had chosen to use my wife's egg but have me carry it would have only been $1000. However for others it can run $10,000 plus+ easily. So figure out what is covered and how much you are willing to pay out of pocket.
Also ask your insurance which Reproductive Endocrinologist is in your area is part of your plan. Book an appointment. If they are good they will 1) help explain your insurance and 2) explain all of your options.
Good Luck!
Ditto Two True! Invitro can be very very expensive depending on your coverage (or lack thereof), so definitely look into what your insurance covers so you can find out what kind of financial investment you're headed for.
There are 2 books that seem to cover all the basics of lesbian TTC - one is written by Rachel Pepper and one by Stephanie Brill. I'd definitely look into those. They will answer a lot of questions you might have, and some you hadn't even thought of to ask yet.
