Bought my OPK's today!

It's getting more and more real now that we are 5 days out from meeting the RE and especially now that I bought my OPK.  I need to schedule a Dr. visit so I can get all the medical paperwork filled out for the sperm bank in case the RE is a no go.

Re: Bought my OPK's today!

  • Congrats on getting things underway!

Did you find a sperm bank that will ship directly to you without a Dr's signature? I didn't know that was even an option (but we never looked into it since we knew we'd need to work with a RE)-- where do you live?

  • We are in Southern California, about an hour from Palm Springs.  I was looking for a bank that would ship to a bank out here so I could go pick it up but we've decided to use California Crybank since they have quite a few donors that fit our requirements.
  • Ah, I see. Keep in mind that with California Cryo you will need a Dr to sign off before they will ship the swimmers to you. The RE could do it, but if he/she won't you may have to look around a bit to find someone who will.

  • My OB will sign off on the papers, he is aware of what we are doing.  I'm not worried about getting the paperwork done, more unsure of whether to get the insem at the RE office or do it ourselves at home.  I want the best possible chances.
  • going w/ an IUI at the RE has statistically better odds than an at-home ICI (especially with frozen sperm) - but they've certainly both worked!

best of luck :) its an exciting time!

  • Ditto CT. If I hadn't needed help ovulating, we might have considered doing a month or two of at-home ICIs before moving on to IUIs. It's great you have the option, and a Dr willing to sign for you! Good luck!

ditto. honestly we didn't even seriously consider trying at home, although i know it's worked for some people. for us, it didn't seem like it would be worth the stress that it would have caused us (or perhaps i should say me...).

  • Thanks ladies!  I was wondering which procudure would be better.  Now I feel more informed going into the consult.
