I need some advice and sorry...this might be long!
I had a phone interview for a position in Greenville on Thursday. The interview went really well, and the exec. director (I spoke with the outreach coordinator and then the exec director) said that she thinks I would be perfect for the job, but it won't work out timing wise. She wanted me to go down for an interview, which I'm willing to do, but I explained to her that it would be a little tough for me to find time between now and the end of May...I work for a charity event that is coming up on May 30, so my ability to leave time is very limited right now. She said that she wants to make an offer by June 1, and I said I would look at my schedule and see when I could possibly go down and get back to her.
I sent an email immediately after the phone interview to send some materials I have worked on so they could review, my references, and again I reiterated that I would look at my schedule and let them know when I could come down for an interview. I called on Friday and was told that the ED was not there and they didn't have her schedule, so call back on Monday. I called back yesterday (Monday) and left a message with someone. I also sent an email to the outreach coordinator (I don't have the ED's email address) to let her know I left a message and to please give me a call back.
I've heard nothing. At this point I'm really annoyed. They know that I have to book a flight, hotel, etc, and that my time frame is really limited...but that I am willing to work something out so that I can go down and interview. They also know that my event is coming up so I can't just up and go whenever I want (the job is with a non profit that organizes large scale events, so they have to understand what it's like) .
Do I call back again today? At what point do I stop being an interested candidate and cross the line into harrassing? WWYD? And am I just being impatient?
Re: WWYD? (Job interview related)
I think i would just send a straight forward e-mail like. "I am very enthusiastic about the position of *blank* and I look forward to discussing it with you in person. Per my previous e-mails and voicemails, I will be able to travel to Greenville for an in-person interview on May ##. If this date works for you, please let me know by May ## so I can make travel arrangements."
Though since they seem to have dropped off the face of the earth, I'm wondering if maybe they are looking for someone who can fill the position more immediately. Considering you have an event the 30th and are very busy until then they can figure that you most likely wouldn't be able to start until mid June at the very earliest.
Thanks MrsZ. I did end up calling them back again, and was told they are still doing in person interviews and would get back to me next week. They aren't looking for anyone to start until end of June/July, and we discussed the limitations of my travel time when I spoke on the phone.
I'm just frustrated and being impatient. We'll see if I ever hear back from them again!
