so here's something interesting...

maine's governor signed a bill making same-sex marriage legal on may 6th. on that same day, the new hampshire house and senate also passed a same-sex marriage bill and sent it to their governor for signature. he hasn't done so, but also--from everything i've seen--hasn't sent it back either.

here's the interesting part: in nh, bills have to be signed or sent back within 5 days, excepting sundays, or they automatically become law (check out article 44). So...the 7th, 8th, 9th, 11th, 12th. that's 5 days. today is the 13th. and he hasn't signed it OR sent it back. so i am very curious to see what happens today.

  • Yes, we will see! I've been following the NE cases - it was understood that the NH Gov would either, sign, veto, or let the bill become law without his signature.  I'll be checking the news sites all day!

  • i wonder if that was a strategic move on his part? ie: he doesnt want to be the one to sign it, but he didnt want to piss people off by sending it back.

either way, i'm pulling for NH!

  • Yup - I think he's going to just let it slide. ::fingers crossed::

  • i've been thinking he was going to let it go through without his signature, but i didn't realize the window was so short (the president has 10 days to sign or veto). exciting!
  • I feel like we are on a roll here with so many states getting with the program and finally passing this for all of us. I hate to jinx it but this is really great how things are going.

I saw a response on another board the other day from this girl that said by allowing SS marriages, next people will be asking to make it legal to marry their sister/brother or an animal. I sent her a PM to explain how utterly ridiculous and INSULTING it was of her to compare these scenarios to me and Sandy getting married. What a shame that ignorance such as this is part of what we have to fight against. I was disgusted.

    ditto!

  • It's so exciting. I am really hoping all these states stepping up help CA get back on track.
