We've been living in Chicago for a month, so our first round of bills is coming in. First, we get a late rent notice, even though we paid this month's rent upon move-in. Go to the property manager, she checks into it, and find out there is another Campos living on the grounds and they deposited our rent into his account. It got corrected, no harm done.
Second, we get our first bill from Comcast. They had never told us that 2 months of service was due up front, but apparently that is their policy. And on our first bill, it says "past due," regardless of the fact that this is the first time we got our bill and haven't even had service for a full month yet. So I get to call Comcast to fix that, too.
Now today is just the biggest kick in the face. We get our ComEd bill, and it is astronomical. Excuse me, who uses 80.7 kwt per day??? Not us, but that's what our bill says. Our new apt is the same size as our last one, and our last bill there was 1/4 the amount. And that was when it was actually cold out and we used the heat more! I call ComEd and the lady says that our bill is about 4 times higher than all of our neighbors, and that we should just pay the bill and they will "check into it" and if they see a problem they will credit us next month. So basically we're supposed to pay this ridiculous bill and cross our fingers that we get a refund in a month.
GAAAH, I'm about to rip my hair out! I'm still out of a job, and DH is only making training pay. We don't have the money to keep fixing all these mistakes that aren't even our fault!
Re: Why so many problems??? (long)
I don't know if I can be much help, but what type of work are you looking for.
As for Comcast, we found that out the hard way also. It feels like no way out sometimes with all the bills. Our Nicor bill is out of control and we don't know why either. Call Nicor and put yourself on a payment plan, that can help. Maybe we can all work to do some networking to help you find a job. There are a lot of us on here that know a lot of people.
I had a similar problem with Nicor ($300!!!!) and they let me go read my own meter and give them the numbers, and they sent out a new bill for the correct amount ($120). They've done it twice now, and I am going to keep calling if they keep sending ridiculous bills. There is no way I am going to pay twice--or four times, in your case--what I owe because they don't feel like fixing it.
Good luck! When we first moved in, we had all the same issues. Things get easier after awhile, but it's a pain in the beginning.
