it happened

so S is now laid off.  Well she still is at work but will be picking her check up sometime today and leaving when she wants.  I need to go over to HR and get her on my insurance this afternoon.  I am pretty stressed about what we are going to do.  She goes to unemployment on Monday (she can't go this week since she worked) We will have to see how much she gets but is will not be pretty.  This may really mess up my maternity leave which I am very sad about.  I may have to go back after 8 weeks instead of the 16 I originally was going to do.  I am trying not to break down and cry...we will see how that goes. S doesn't want me to stress but I think that is just crazy, how could I not.  We are having a baby in 18 weeks! Ok deep breaths.  Back to work to distract myself.

  • You guys will make it work, and it will be okay.  That 18 weeks is 18 weeks of job searching.  I know it's a bad time for finding a new job, but as long as S can be somewhat flexible, she should be able to find something eventually.  That recruiter I emailed you is really great, and there are so many others in the city that do all kinds of jobs all over the Boston area.  I know it's impossible not to worry, but you'll find a way to get through.  And we're all here for you!

  • I totally understand why you're stressing, but its all going to work out in the end.  try not to worry about the maternity leave yet, there is still plenty of time in between for things to change.

big huge hugs sam - we're here for you!!

  • Sam. Hugs to you.

The two of you will make it work, it will work! & Mrs._F is right, it's 18 weeks of job hunting. It will work out for the two of you, I know it!

  • I'm sorry!! hugs!

don't worry too much about the maternity leave yet - 4 months might be lucrative new-job wise!

I am one of those people who have faith that things always work out - but of course I have to freak about it first.

Four months is a long time to find a job! It'll work out!!!

     Hang in there!

  • Well at least you are no longer waiting for the axe to drop and can make a plan. Hopefully things will all work out before your leave.

  • Yes, deep breaths. I am so sorry you are having to deal with this! ((hugs))

I don't know what kind of work S does, but thought I'd put a little plug in for looking into fed government jobs. Sometimes they suck, and you do have to deal with lots of bureaucratic shenanigans, and it can take a while to get hired, but fed jobs are super-stable. USA Jobs (http://www.usajobs.com/) is the main site to search.

I hope something works out so you can have all the maternity leave you want! I'm thinking good thoughts for you and S!

  • Thanks everyone.  I am so glad I have you guys to vent to.  It makes it much easier.

I will have S check out the gov jobs.  Perhaps it will be something that will work out for her.  Thanks

  • I'm late to the game, but wanted to just say ditto to everything that above posters said. And good luck... I'm hopeful that things will still work out in time for your maternity leave.
