Question 5/13

How long could you survive with only the food in your house?

I just realized that we don't keep much food at all.  I maybe have 3 meals available (and only that since I froze some chicken a few weeks ago).  Then we'd be down to the 10 canned items that we own, some flour and a bunch of liquor.

Re: Question 5/13

  • At least a week, most likely two or more. We have a lot of food in our house, but we never have snack food (unless I bake it) so it doesn't seem like it. I'm always a little surprised by what I find in the freezer!

  • We just went shopping on Sunday. So at least 2 weeks. Maybe 3, but the last week would have an abundance of snacks.
  • I guess it would depend on how picky we got.

Ordinarily we could probably last 2 weeks.  My husband and I just started another business venture (in addition to his computer repair shop), so we've been broke.  So we really have been surviving on what we've got.

I actually find it fun to look in the pantry and whip up something with what I've got, kind of like what they do on Pantry Raid.  We always keep fresh garlic and shallots around as well as pleanty of frozen and canned veggies so it works pretty well for us.

I would say a week or two.  We've got some stuff stocked up in our freezer and a good supply of non perishables, so I think we could make it work.  I hope I never have to find out though!

  • Probably 3-4 weeks, but we would not be eating balanced meals at all.  Most of the stuff I keep stocked in the house are pastas etc that don't go bad quickly.  We buy our fresh produce and meat usually a couple times a week.

  • comfortably, a couple weeks.

  • About 3 weeks or so.  We keep a good bit of food at the house - especially things that will keep because with D's job he may or may not get called out for a period of time where he'd need to bring food with him.

With the flour you could always make fresh pasta if you have an egg handy!  (mmmm...spaetzle!)

  • We'd be able to last a good while. We keep all of our meat in the freezer and thaw as needed.. Plus we have a lot of snacks. And DH is a chef so even with crap he could come up with something to eat.
