Name change question

Where do you go to change your name for your social security?

How long does it take?

Re: Name change question

  • You have to go to a social security office to get it done. It took me a while because I went during a bad time. I went to the office in Kissimmee, but I'm not sure what office is closest to you.

  • I mailed my name change application in...and sent two id's with it. (i think it was two, the application tells you what you need) and I got my two identifications items back and received my new card in like two weeks...it was a better option than sittting in a SS office.

Dam I didn't know you could change the SS that way!! I wasted an hour and half or so. :-( Oh well.

  • You go to the social security office. I went right when it opened and waited about five minutes.

    I didn't know this either.

  • I just did this the other day. I had to go to the Orlando office because they closed the Kissimmee office recently. The one in Orlando is on Gatlin, right off of Semoran. I went in the middle of the day and it took me about an hour and a half.
  • Me, too..wish I knew!  I am still changing my name on sooo many things!

  • Just so you know they recently began requiring all Central Floridians to go in person to the office off of Gatlin to change there name or get a replacement card. You can no longer mail it in either :(  Here is a link to the information about where you go and how you have to go in person in the Orlando area http://www.ssa.gov/cardcenters/cardcenterinfo.html
  • I was there about 3 weeks ago changing my name and I was there for 2 hours and it was scary!!! Try to take DH with you if possible. The cops had to be called twice while I was there becuase of people fighting outside the building.
