know of any good movers? 19 days!

the move is getting closer.  I still haven't decided on a mover for us.  I am looking at a company called Nobel Van Lines.  has anyone used them?  Or do you know of a great moving company for about $1000 - $1500.
I feel very iffy about all moving companies -  and I don't really know anyone that has used movers to get referrals from!

Re: know of any good movers? 19 days!

  • My DH, Scott, is a salesman for Allied Van Lines.  You can email him at smanges @ morsemoving . com  and he can give you some info or set up an appointment.
  • We used Two Men and a Truck a few times for local moves, and my company moved me with Stuart's (in Indy) across the country, but I think they're a little pricey (which is why we went with Two Men and a Truck when we had to pay for it).  I had good experiences with both companies.
  • the main thing we are worried about it stuff getting lost - we are planning on putting it in the moving company's free storage for about 2 weeks.  but we have heard a couple horror stories.

    so, should we:

    a) use the moving company's storage and have it delivered to our apt in Indy (when we find one.) - the storage is at no extra cost.

    or

    b) have the moving company deliver it to a storage unit that we pay for, and then rent a truck to transport it from the unit to our apt. (again, when we find one).  - so this would add about $100 at least to the cost, but could be worth it if nothing is lost.  But then, we would have to move the stuff by ourselves from the storage to our new place.

    which sounds better?

     10 days 'til we move!

  • Which company have you decided to use?  Your stuff shouldn't get lost putting it in the companies storage.  I would think that would be more expensive though, because even though you get the storage for free you still have to pay to move everything twice.
