Nesties Who Have Been to Chicago

Do you recommend anywhere to stay & what to see???

TIA

Re: Nesties Who Have Been to Chicago

  • We went 9 years ago (for my 16th bday) and I absolutely loved the city. My dad is from a suburb of Chicago, so he was our un-official tour guide.

We stayed at The Embassy Suites Downtown (near Michigan Ave). We shopped at the Water Tower Place (I believe that is the name of the vertical mall there). We ate at Shaw's, which is great if you love seafood!

Of course we went to Wrigley Field, went around The Loop, saw the Sears Tower and the John Hancock building... but since I was so young I didn't get a chance to experience the nightlife ;-)

    Have fun!!

  • I'm from Chicago!  I posted last night about moving to Naples in August.

Anyways, pretty much any hotel along Michigan Ave or the "Magnificant Mile" would be a great hotel to stay at.  It's a really central location to everything "tourist-y".  Millenium Park is a great place to visit, that's where the Bean is, there are also a lot of free concerts going on there usually.  Navy Pier is a fun place to visit (expensive though), they have lots of cutesty shops, the big ferris wheel, they have boat tours you can do on the lake.  You can go to the Field Muesum, The Shedd Aquarium, Museum of Science and Industry.  Right now Marry Poppins and Legally Blonde the Musical are playing at the oriental theater.  You can also see Blue Man Group, it's hilarious! :)  There are lots of great reasaurants near the Mag Mile.  Make sure you get some "chicago mix" popcorn.  It's cheese and carmel corn mixed together, sounds gross, but it's delish!

Haha, sorry that was probably an overload of info, let me know if I can do anything else to help you! :)

  • When I went it was for work and I only had a few hours but we saw Wrigley field and went to the bars in "wrigeley-ville".  Also, we stopped at a hot dog stand called the Weiner's Circle where the cool thing to do is that vulgar restaurant staff insult you and you have to insult them back. it was weird, but was definitely funny!
  • I am from just north of there in SE WI and my parents still live there. I love the Italian Village for dinner. It is near the theatre district. We've stayed at the Drake and the Palmer House... both are Hilton Hotels. I would def stay near millenium mile so you can enjoy the lakefront.

FYI- if you want to go to the Hancock building, instead of paying to get the the observation deck, there is a bar/restaurant above it that you can go to for free. All you need to do it buy a drink or app. It costs less than the deck and it is higher up.
  • P.S. Like PP said- the Museum of Science and Industry is a must! We go there whenever I have the time and I am visiting my parents. HTH.
