What did you do with.....

your wedding dress? Mine is currently hanging from the rod part of our poster bed. Seriously I have no idea what to do with it. A lot of people have recommended preserving it, but I have also heard horror stories about people opening the box later and it wasn't even their dress in there. I do not know anyone who has actually done it, so I do not know of any reliable place to go if that is what I decide to do with it.

I was just curious what everyone else has done with thiers.

If you did preserve it locally, and they did a good job, where did you go? TIA.

Re: What did you do with.....

  • I threw mine in the guest room closet in the David's Bridal bag I brought it home in.  It is still in there...dirty and all...

  • I actually pulled my dress out yesterday and tried it on. I was really bored and have lost some weight so I was curious to see how it would fit. It is really dirty on the bottom from our outdoor wedding and one of my bridesmaids drunkenly spilled her drink down the front. I would like to get it cleaned, but I have also heard bad stories.
  • It is sitting under the bed in a preservation box at my parents...the box has a "window" in it, so I can see it is my dress.

  • Well mine was hanging in my in-law's closet in Miami till probably two months ago. Now its hanging in my guest room closet still dirty and all. Its going to be 2 years tomorrow. :-)

    At least I'm not alone...

  • *not tomorrow, next month!!

My mind is on vacation mode. Is it June yet?

  • My wedding dress is still hanging up on my closet at my parent's house in Michigan. (and I was married 5 yrs ago!) I meant to preserve it, but never got around to it. My sister-in-law still hasn't gotten around to preserving her dress either, and she got married 10 years ago.

I also admit to trying on my dress this winter. It still fits! lol

  • My wedding dress is in my guest room closet. Dirty and all like everyone else's. I tried mine on in March (I took sexy boudoir pictures for H) and a year later, it still FITS! :)
  • Well thank you ladies, I feel so much better. I thought I was being a slacker, but now I am just going to hang it in the guestroom closet. Smile

I can deside if I want to do anything with it later.

  • Mine is somewhere at my parents house. Uncleaned from our JUNE wedding 2 years ago! I'm sure its lovely by now. I plan on someday getting it cleaned and maybe "preserved" although I don't really know what that means. I'd love for one of my daughters to want to use it, but I am praying they will be taller and thinner than me!! Maybe they can use the fabric at least.

    THIS!

  • Mine is at my parents house in CA, it is still exactly as it was when I took it off on my wedding night almost a year ago.

    This!

  • Its in the guest bedroom.  I think I only have taken it out once just to look at it.  I think when I have a child I'm going to try to make their baptism outfits out of the dress.  We'll see.

  • Mine is hanging somewhere at my moms house, its filthy dirty because i've done 2 trash the dress photo shoots on the beach!! I don't think i'm going to waste the money on getting it cleaned....its ripped in some places so i can't really sell it...hmm don't know what to do w/ it!

  • So glad I am not alone!!  Mine is still in my guest room closet in the bag in came in still bustled!!  And July is 4 years that we are married!!  That is going to be the baby's room so I better decide what I want to do with it!
  • My dress is still hanging in my closet it its bag. DH wants me to wear it every year on our anniversary, but I doubt I will ever be able to fit in it again.
  • Mine is still hanging in the closet of the guest room because I haven't been able to part with it yet. Embarrassed I am really not sure what I will do with it.

This. Except when we had to clean out our "last" closet in what is now Ainsley's room, I moved it to my grandmother's house (now sits next to about 3 bridesmaids dresses and my senior prom dress - how sad is that!)

Options that I have considered: making a baptism dress for DD (but I don't think there is enough time to find someone to do it AND get it done); making a teddy bear for DD; or (as suggested by my mom - have a little dress made for DD if/when she is interested in playing "dress - up".

  • I am just like everyone else... my dirty dress is hanging off the closet door in our guest bedroom... we will be married a year next month!

My husband and I talk about what to do with it... I tell him I want to at least get it cleaned, and he says "no, it will wipe away all the wedding memories", and then other times he suggest I try to sell it (but I can't and won't... it's my wedding dress). My mom wants me to make it into a cocktail dress and use the remnant materials for christening gowns later on in life.... we have to figure out what we are going to do before we move within the next month or two!

I like the idea of using the materials later in life as christening gowns...etc. Not a bad idea.
