sannice1979-thanks!

Your lady has already contacted me! While she told me it's best to keep the ins I have now she did tell me some things to think about and acknowledged it was basically our state's/ Country's crappy program to blame for me not being able to have a plan that actually works! See below if your interested on the reason I'm stuck with no maternity:

I hate Texas' regulations on health insurance.  was sick last week and had to go to the doc. Well that got me thinking about all my benefits that my insurance covers and I found out my insurance even though I was firmly reassured it does, does NOT have Maternity coverage so I have been nonstop looking for the last couple of days for new health insurance that has maternity (for later on or an oops moment- especially since I know people who have had little ones while ON birth control!!!!!) Well Assurant health is basically the only health insurance provider that will offer maternity on an individual policy owner (my boss reimburses me the cost of mine so they count it as an individual policy as opposed to the employer offered kind that all offer maternity~!!!!!!!) We as I was going over everything with the Assurant rep I asked him if I was clear as to if these are my two options:

Option 1: Have insurance through who I have now, and have decent insurance with the typical $40.00 co pay with the rx coverage. So I can actually afford to go to the doc for things like the flu, a cold or even a well woman exam or

Option 2: go back to the shitty insurance coverage I had that cost $10 more than what I pay now. The way it works is I would have a $5,000.00 deductable. That means I would have to pay out of pocket for EVERYTHING 100% UNTIL I pay the $5,000.00 then my CO INSURANCE kicks in and I only pay 1/2 of everything up to $7,500.00 and once I meet that(which means I have out of pocket paid $7,500.00 in one  year) then they cover $100.00. Oh but if I go to someone in their PPO network they sometimes offer a discount!!!! (note the sarcasism)BUT that plan does include maternity!!!!

So I basically asked him if I had it rigth when I told him this: " so basically I have to decide between if I want a plan that would cover maternity or a major car accident if I had one but that's it or a plan that would actually afford me to be able to actually GO to the doctor if I need to for thinks like if I get sick or my well woman exam that is supposed to be done yearly??? Do I have this right???"

That A## actually said, " Well yes, you basically have to decide how important have a baby and being covered is to you and if it's important then you need to change your policy and go with us"

This makes me mad because ok so basically I have to decide if I want kids now? To me the kicker is with their stupid effed up policy it's not like they would cover any of the Pre-Natal anyway unless the discount is just that kickass in the PPO networks (which is probablly isnt!!!!!)

Or my secret possible 3rd option LOL!!! (only kinda joking but don't know about the rules and stuff for it) Keep my health insurance and see if Medicaid or anything like that helps out with pregnancies????LOL!!!!! I know ALOT of my clients have insurance and Medicaid!!!!

  • I'm right there with you. Our company does not provide benefits, but they reimburse T & me for the cost of our individual plan out of pocket. We do not have maternity right now. We are looking at getting with Assurant though. Assurant does offer maternity, but there is a high deductible on both the regular medical and maternity. With Assurant we could pay $289/mo for a regular medical deductible of $3500 and a maternity deductible of $5k. Ouch, I know.

Right now we're with Golden Rule (United HeathCare's indivdual plans) and we pay $266/mo with a regular medical deductible of $2500 and no maternity.

ETA - Sorry, I didn't read through your entire post! I just saw your info on Assurant as well. :)

    It sucks.

That is who I have right now too. It just sucks because I love my  insurance now I just wished they had maternity! I would even pay the diffrence to add it on as a rider if I had the option!

  • You can add a maternity rider w/ G.R. BUT... it's not very good. It's $106/mo and it only covers like $2500 (total) for the first 2 years, and then goes up to like $5000 until 5 years... or something like that.

We had it at one point, but removed it because it was a waste of money. We could just be private pay clients with my OB/GYN and that would be a better deal than paying $106/mo for the other crap!

  • You're welcome.  She is very cool and no pressure so I always refer to her because she simply wants to help and not just pressure you to buy from her.  :)
