Car Seat Question

My son is 7 months old so I know I don't have to worry about this to soon, but right now he's in the infant car seat.  I received the next step up on at my shower that holds up to 50 lbs.  I am trying to figure this out so I am not blowing money left and right on car seats.  I have to get one for my aunt and also one for my friend that picks him up every morning.  Should I get one for my car that goes up to 85 or 100lbs and give this one that we have to my friend or should I just get her a cheaper one and we keep the one that we have now?  I guess the question really is...how nasty do they get after a few years of using them.  Will I want to get a new one in a few years or so?  Let me know your thoughts.  Thanks!

Re: Car Seat Question

  • I think that you are set if you get one that holds from 5 to 85 or 100. Especially if you are going to continue having them take him places after he reaches the limit of the infant seats.

I haven't gotten far yet into how clean they stay over a period of time, but I am sure that if you keep up on them and spot clean them periodically you should be all set. Mya has been using her current seats since 3 mos (she HATED the infant seat) and aside from some dog fur that got in there, they are still very clean.

On a side note, I think that car seats are only good for 5 years I believe, but they should have the expiration date on them somewhere, it could even be more than that.
