Selling the del mar fairgrounds?

Did anyone hear that they are planning on selling the Del Mar fairgrounds, which will mean no horse races and no fair in a couple of yearsCrying

My professor told me about it, they are also selling the colessium (sp?)

I guess it is to help the state with money, so they can get out of debt. Not sure if this is 100% true but all I have to say is I will be sad if there isn't a fair anymore!

ETA: here is a link I found http://www3.signonsandiego.com/stories/2009/may/14/1n14budget002311-schwarzenegger-wants-sell-del-mar/?northcounty&zIndex=99155

  • How would I get my french fry fix? ?Those fair fries are the best! ?
  • anytime we were at the races, it was pretty freaking busy.  it seems like the area is used throughout the year for other events besides the fair.  don't you think it's making more money than what it would be sold for?
  • Putting the fairgrounds (and the Coliseum and the other properties they're talking about) up for sale and selling them are two very different things.  Also, even if they do sell the fairgrounds, that doesn't mean the buyers won't continue to use the land in the same way...  So don't worry too much!

Yeah but I also heard they want to sell the fairgrounds and make it into a bunch of condos.

I heard this on the radio.  They want to sell the fair grounds up on L.A. too.  (don't remember which ones.)
