Anthropologie clothing

Has anyone else had trouble with the quality of clothing from Anthropologie? Their stuff is expensive, but I tend to like a lot of things there, so I'll occasionally buy a shirt or sweater from them. Several of the things I've bought in the last year or two years have had issues - like a button almost immediately falls off, or comes very loose and I have to sew it back on. Or this one shirt has a little ribbon tie at the neck, and the first time I washed it the ribbon broke off so I have to sew that back on.

It's annoying that $10 shirts I buy on clearance at Target last longer without mending than $160 shirts from Anthropologie.

Re: Anthropologie clothing

  • I buy quite a few things from there. ?I have never had problems with sweaters, but the tops I've bought have not lasted. ?I have one hanging on the door right now that I purchased last year. ?There are two small holes in the shirt. ?One is on the hip area and the other under the arm. ?I believe I wore shirt two times at the most. ?There are certain brands that I found that I can stick with there and seem to last well like Sleeping on Snow, Charlie & Robin, and a few others. ?Moth is questionable as some things last and others don't. ?I have one dress from Maple that is great and I wear it constantly. ?Perhaps I'm a little too familiar with their items from this post. ?My DH would agree!?
  • YES! I was just thinking that I was not going to buy any more tops from Anthro- lately they've either shrunk, even though I've followed laundering instructions on the tags, or gotten small holes in them on the seams. It's ridiculous! Boooo!

    This.

It's unfortunate but they do have lovely stuff though. And I love their stuff for the home. Just got some "inside out" bowls the other day.

  • Arrrggggh- their quality SUXS! Forever 21 has better quality! I hope Anthro doesn't win the lawsuit against Forever because that has been my alternative to Anthropologie's over priced and  poor quality items.

  • The only problem I ever had was washing a shirt according to the directions, and then having it bleed on itself.  I took it back and they exchanged it for a new one.  I'm going to wash it by hand and hang to dry this time.  If it happens again, I'm taking it back again and getting my money back.

Outside of that, I have had nothing but good luck.

I buy mostly skirts from anthro, but I do have a few tops and I haven't had a problem with any of them.  However, I do handwash a lot of items, or have them dry cleaned.  I think a lot of their items are not meant to be put in the washer.

Also, in regards to this lawsuit.  Forever21 copies a lot of things, but so does every store (don't the top designers come up with the trends and then the mall stores come up with their version of it)? Not really seeing the issue here. Although I haven't really seen anything from anthro that looks exactly like something from F21.
  • I agree, their quality is not what it used to be, and isn't worth the price. ?I've felt like the clothes in recent years have gotten less artsy and more raggedy. ?I went in there a couple of weeks ago b/c I hadn't been in there in over a year, and everything looked faded and shopworn.

I am also disappointed that their selection of items for someone with a big chest is severely lacking. ?Big chested girls like cutesy clothes too. Sad

  • I don't think their shirts are the best quality. ?Even t-shirts, I put on delicate cycle and line dry. ?However, I have never had a problem with the quality of the dresses, skirts or pants. ?
  • how could Anthropologie even sue Forever 21 for copying? ?They sell a mixture of brands so its not like any of their stuff is their OWN stuff anyway? ?Maybe I misread that though, first time I heard about it.

    ?

I have had the same problem with buttons falling off or becoming really loose.?

  • Anthropologie does "own" some of the brands. ?I knew a designer of their knitwear and she worked for Anthropologie, but the tag in the item had a "brand." Obviously, this isn't true for all the brands there, but it is for some.

Funny I should read this.  I just placed a $150 Forever 21 order online and got 19 items (Regular Anthro fans can tell you how many items you can purchase there for $150).  I used to be an big Anthropologie fan but have had all of the exact same problems everyone has mentioned.  Even when you follow the care directions, I've never had an Anthro item look/ fit the same after washing.  (Except for a great jacket I bought there.)

I discovered Forever 21 and started purchasing there with the mindset that it wouldn't last but it was cute and cheap.  I have been VERY impressed with the quality there!  The jewelery tends to fall apart, but when it costs $3.80, I don't really care as long as I get to wear it more than once.

  • I stick to Anthropologie for dresses. That's about it. I love the accessories, too, but they are pricey for trendy accessories that you can find at other stores on the cheap!

  • I constantly have problems with buttons falling off things from there.  I have no problem sewing buttons back on but when I buy a $200 sweater, I don't expect 3 buttons to fall off the first time I wear it!  I've also had problems with things getting holes along the seams.

About their items needing to be drycleaned - I definitely follow the care instructions, whether they need to be washed, handwashed or drycleaned.  It doesn't seem to make a difference.  Their stuff falls apart no matter what.

I'm sitting here doing homework and just noticed 2 tiny holes on my fairly new "meadow rue" from Anthropologie. I stopped buying "deletta" and the other brand with the small frabric letter envelope as the tag (I can't make out the name) so far I have 5 shirts with holes in the same places, and 2 "language LA) that don't have any yet! I stopped wearing belts since I thought that was the problem. I don't know why these clothes have this problem since they are not cheaply made. I think I'm gradually being cured of my obsession with this store.
  • I generally buy clothing for my husband from Two Square Clothing because they have a great variety of mens jackets, tees, shirts, pants, hoodies etc at affordable price. for more information visit store website.
