House Warming Party

So we haven't even moved into our new house yet, but people are already asking when we will be having everyone over aka a housewarming party.  I would want to as soon as possible, but I kind of want to be settled first and got a bunch of things straight.

For those of you that have had them did you have one pretty soon or did you wait some time?

I am all for having parties, but I kind of don't want to have people over and then be like well we plan to recarpet this room, buy this,  do this, etc?  But don't want to wait to long.

Re: House Warming Party

  • Well we've been in our house for about 13 months and aren't having a party until next month, which in actuality is a new deck party b/c we never had a housewarming.  We just built a new deck that doubled the size of the old, so it's our excuse to have people over.

We really only had a mini-open house on move-in day (both our families were there helping) and then we hostedMother's Day.  Everyone knows you'll be making changes to personalize or update things.  I wouldn't worry about that too much.  Even on move-in day we were saying "oh we want to do this/that, etc."  People know it's evolving.

Give yourself a month at least would be my suggestion.  That way you can get moved in, settled and do any decorating you might want to do.

I may not be the best person to ask, we moved in 6 months before the wedding and basically had no time to worry about the house until this spring.  We just painted the first set of rooms a couple weeks ago.

  • I would wait at least a month too. Get what decorations out you have already, and don't worry about things like the carpet, unless you already planned on doing them in the first month. Good Luck!
