xp: Madeline Island recs for MN nestie

Hi~  I'm from MN and am wondering if anyone can answer Madeline Island questions.  I posted this on the travel board, but thought I'd cross post.

Does anyone have recommendations for lodging?  We're open to a resort/hotel or camping.  Even better if it's on the lake or has a lake view.

Any idea of what the weather is like in late May? Is it still cold enough for jackets?

tia!

  • I had never even heard of this island before! I had to google to make sure you didn't mean Mackinaw Island. I don't think I'm the only one.

I can bet for weather thought that it will still be pretty cool. I would bet easily it's in the 50s each night of below and probaly mid 60s and 70s during the day.

  • I know of Madeleine Island! However, I have no lodging recs. I think I was there just for a day trip years ago. The weather would definitely still be on the cool side. You might get lucky and have a weirdly warm stretch, but you are more likely to have cool weather. We  used to go to northern WI every year Memorial Day weekend and saw everything from high 70s to snow and hail. Definitely bring jeans & jackets.

  • We camped in Madeline Island several years ago.  We just stayed at the main campground in tents.  We actually drove up and took the car over on the ferry.  We went at the end of September and had a few warm days and a few cold days.  I'd probably expect the same at the end of May.  The nights will probably be pretty cold, but you might get some warm weather during the day.

  • Thanks, ladies!  I'll be prepared for the cold but keep my fingers crossed for warm weather.

  • If you want to try to brave the weather and go camping, a friend of mine camped at Big Bay state park and liked it. I can't speak from personal experience though. I've never been there.
