Wedding Gifts

I was reading a post on another board and it got me thinking.....what is the "average" amount to spend on a wedding gift.  This particular post was saying as low as $20 to as high as $300.  I am going to a few weddings this summer and I wasn't really planning on spending $300 on a gift but certainly more than $20.  Am I wrong?

Re: Wedding Gifts

  • We normally spend about $75 on wedding gifts unless they are family or good friends. For family and good friends we spend somewhere between $100 - $200.  But, I really think you should just spend what you can afford.....not more.
  • We usually spend in the $75 - $100 range for friends, $100-150 for family. If it is someone maybe that we work with/go to church with, but not necessarily invited to the wedding, we'll get them a $20-25 gift card, more just to acknowledge that we're happy for them (and for the sake of not giving an empty card).
  • Usually around $ 100 for friends and family.  $ 100-200 for close family.
  • It depends on how close we are to the couple, etc... but between $35 - $100... again.. .depends on a few factors..
  • We usually spend $100, unless it's family or a really close friend and then we'll spend more.
