G'ville/Simpsonville local rec's needed--moving in 3 wks!

We are moving to G'ville in 3 weeks from Atlanta.  We close on our Simpsonville home at the end of June and I need help on a few things.

1-Pediatrician--prefer a single doctor practice (well checks by PA, OK with me!) looking for one in Simpsonville or within 10-15 minutes.  Could go for a group but I prefer no more than 2-3 drs.

2-Phone Service--Having trouble figuring out land line info...not AT&T/Bellsouth or Windstream from what I can tell online.  Help!  We will be in Weatherstone off Harrison Bridge/Fairview Rd area.

3-OB/GYN--in/around Simpsonville, affiliated with nice hospital (don't know anything about them either!)

4-General Practice Doctor/Group--group ok, mostly go for sinus infections, strep, etc

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

Megan--Mommy to Owen 1.10.07 and Gibson 5.11.10

Re: G'ville/Simpsonville local rec's needed--moving in 3 wks!

  • Not sure about the first two as my pediatrician retired over 10 years ago and I'm no longer in G'ville.  Until I moved, I went to Greenville East Center for Women.  It's located at 2080 Woodruff Road if you want to figure out how far that is from you.  The doctor that I saw is no longer there, but my sister saw another doctor in the practice (Metherell...not sure about the spelling) and really liked him.  I want to say they're affiliated with St. Francis Women's Hospital (one of the good ones last I heard) and probably Greenville Memorial.

GP-I went to Upstate Adult and Adolescent Medicine (540 Old Howell Road) and saw Michael Traurig (internist).  I'm like you in that I went mostly for sinus and strep.  He's a family friend.  I think he's solo.

  • Congrats on your upcoming move!!! Hooray for another Simpsonville Nestie!!! Big Smile

1-Carolina Pediatrics-specifically Dr. Tracey Butcher- is a wonderful pediatrician in this area. They're at: 200 Patewood Rd #A120 Greenville (864)454-2670

2-Honestly, it might just make more sense to use a cell phone. AT&T is constantly having issues/cutting cables/taking forever to correct issues. It's just less of a headache for us to have our cellphones.

3-I use Greenville OBGYN. They're part of the Greenville hospital system community. They're in the same area as Dr Butcher's office-on Patewood in the GHS campus area. I've seen Dr. Troutman, but  I've heard great things about all 5 doctors in that practice.

4-As far as General Practice, DH & I use the Doctor's Care office in Simpsonville. It's off Fairview Road, 1 street past the Kohls/Ingles shopping center. They're open 7 days a week, and anytime we've been in the office our wait time has always been bearable -unlike a number of other "quick" care" facilities. The doctors, PA's and office staff are always very friendly and professional.

We've been here in Simpsonville for almost 2 years and absolutely love it!!! Please let me or any of the Greenville/Simpsonville Nesties know if you need/want any other help/info/suggestions!!

    Big Smile

  • The only thing I can really give advice about is the phone.

Well...I can tell you which Doc not to go to.  I've been going to Hillcrest Family Practice right off of Main Street down there in Simpsonville for about 10 years.  In fact, I'm shopping around for a new doc.  There is one doctor there who is great (Dr. Johnson).

I had my first pap smear there when I was 18 and going away to college.  The nurse practicioner took 30 minutes to find my cervix.  One of the physicians there ordered me to have a fasting glucose tolerance test, and cancelled my appointment on me 4 times.  Three years later...I still don't know if I'm diabetic or not and they refused to let any other doc there interpret my results without sending me for another 4 hour long test full of people sticking me with sword like needles every 30 minutes.

Did I mention getting an appointment is impossible?  I can call there when they open and only manage to get a work-in after 5.

Now that you know who NOT to go to.

As for phone service...we use Vonage.  Its cheap and works great.  We have one of their cheaper plans where we get 500 minutes, but we use our cell phones 90% of the time.

    1.   I use Parkside Pediatrics.   Check them out:  www.parksidepediatrics.com   they are on Batesville Rd in the Five Forks Area.   I haven't been going to them long since DS is only 2 months, but I have no complaints.   We see Dr. Anderson.    They also have orientations for people looking to possibly join the practice.   Just check out the website.

Can't really help with the others.

  • This is a little late.

We use Greenville Peds, single practice Dr. and he is wonderful, he will stay at night until every sick child has been seen.  We live in Five Forks and he is just off Haywood Rd, it takes me a good 20 minutes from home but I wouldn't trade him for the world (we go seem to be there every week at the moment) - the last I heard he wasn't accepting new patients, but if you go to the OB below he'll take you.

OB - I use Blossom OBGYN, single practice again and she only delivers at St. Francis Eastside, unless you are high risk then she'll deliver you at Greenville.  I delivered at ST. Francis Eastside and loved every second of it, the rooms are huge, you deliver in your room, if you have a CS the baby stays with you b/c you recover in your room, which was key for me.

If you have any questions please let me know, I don't check the boards very often these days though but I'd be glad to help.

  • We live in Easley- and I am guessing you are all established in Simpsonville by now but here are my suggestions:

Peds- we use Carolina Pediatrics (located at the Patewood offices of GHS)- Dr. Mathias. They're all great in that group. Parkside Pediatrics is also highly recommended. I know all the docs in town personally (i'm a peds resident) and I like those 2 groups the best.

OB- I go to Piedmont OB/GYN. They have an office off hwy 14. They only deliver at Greenville Memorial. I am pretty happy with my care, I had a pretty intense high risk pregnancy.

I don't have a general doctor (bad I know), but DH sees Dr. Fuson at Riverside Family Practice (Halton Road, near Haywood Rd) and we both really like the practice and the doctor. There is an all female internal med group at Patewood that is really good. One of the docs there is Dr. McCann.
