Great places to live in Nashville??

Hey!

I was just wondering if you ladies can give me any help or advice on great places to rent in Nashville. My fiance and I will be moving here by september 2010 and are pretty clueless on the area!

An idea of what we are looking for is:
- Near Vanderbilt or on a good Transit line.
- In a pretty safe area.
- Reasonably priced (max of around $1100).
- Small dog friendly.

Thanks so much for any help!
Links, addresses, and names of buildings or areas greatly appreciated!!

  • Look in neighborhoods like West End, Hillsboro Village, and Green Hills.  Those are all going be like what it sounds you are looking for and w/ very easy access (walking in some areas) to Vandy.
  • Definitely look on CraigsList. That's how we found our place in 12South. I also have friends that bus into Vandy from East Nashville.

  • I am loling at "transit line" ?There is not much here in the way of reliable public transportation. ?

I lived in Hermitage for 2 years and loved it. ?Its about 15mins out of town, and is on the commuter train line. ?Will you be working at Vanderbilt??

Ditto. ?I found my place (right by Vandy, off West End Ave) driving around after looking at ANOTHER apartment I saw on Craigslist. ?My landlord didn't even advertise the available apartment anymore than a tiny sign in the grass that said "1 bedroom for rent". ?Vandy students park on my street! ?Craigslist is the BEST place to look for these areas.

  • go to vanderbilt.edu and click on the faculty and staff menu item, then click on myvu, then click classifieds -- lots of near vandy rentals listed by vanderbilt students, faculty and staff... also just drive around the neighborhoods off campus once you get here, there are a million places for rent right now. craigslist like pp said also have a ton of rentals. the belmont area is great too. there are plenty of bus stops all around the campuses, so if you need the bus you should be fine. b
