PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

I was not sure if we are still doing this on this board or the bump board, but I thought we could start it off here.  I guess some savy person could link it to a post on another board, alas that person is not me!

So any general updates??

qotw: What baby item do you covet but know is completly not practical but will probably still get/have gotten?

To the Moms out there what item would you choose to have if you could only have one?

Re: PCP/TTC/ATP Wednesday

  • Oh maybe I should respond to my own post.

I am doing ok although I am super tired today.  So much for the 2nd trimester energy.  I had it for a bit but it seems to be all gone.  My legs are also not feeling great.  I think that is just due to standing all day.  I wanted to take a personal day Friday to rest up but can't becasue it is before a a 3 day week end!

My one splurge item has been the stroller.  We got it for a great price but it was still expensive when you add in the bassinette to it.  I really love it and it should last for more than one child so I think it is worth it.

Childcare is the bane of my existence. Our nanny didn't show up this morning so I called her 15 minutes after she was supposed to be here. She was still asleep and coughing like crazy so she decided to stay home today. We had dinner with her last night and she seemed fine at 8pm. Given the fact she didn't call to give us a heads up, we couldn't find anyone and so I am home today. Not that I am not loving the beautiful weather we're having, spending time with the kids, or being able to do some things around the house - but I had a lot of things that I needed to do at work.  And of course L is teaching an all day course today and was already at work when this all transpired. UGH.

We also splurged on a stroller.  We needed a double jogging stroller for walks around our neighborhood and none of them are cheap. We ended up getting a Baby Jogger City Series Double that was fabulous. We (or our nanny) used it daily for walks - I bet there are hundreds and hundreds of miles on it.

Something that we spent more than we should have (and now regret) was bedding. We bought a relatively expensive bedding set (quilt, bumpers, sheets, crib skirt) We never could use the quilt in the crib hgg(we used it as a mat for the floor - but when we had to wash it often due to spit up, it fell apart), we used the bumbers for the first 4m and then had to take them off once they could roll around, the sheet was thin and we ended up using flannel sheets year round because they were softer, and once we lowered the mattress (around 9m) we took the skirt off since it was dragging on the ground.

Also a good splurge is the Britax convertible car seat. It is so much easier to install and get the kids into than our cheap car seats that we have in L's car.  They are pricey, but they'll last a long time (the Marathon lasts to 65lbs - and my kids are only 30/35lbs at 3 years old.)

  • I am never sure if I should post in this thread...I will take a chance and post today.

LMC had a better day yesterday, for which I am so grateful. She really enjoys music so we danced and laughed to the Mamma Mia soundtrack. She was gentle with her sister and kept her tantrums to a minimum.

PBS is thriving. She started rolling over at 10 weeks and amuses us with her acrobatics and now sleeps with her little tush up in the air. She smiles and laughs with us and only gets up once a night for a few minutes. She is such a joy.

If we were going to splurge it would be on a stroller, I like the Mutsy.  A different crib would be nice, a round one, though not practical.

    .

  • No big update here. I'm charting and waiting for ovulation.  We have a couple of front runners in the donor decision, but still plenty of time to order extended info and make a decision.

QOTD: Of course we aren't really shopping yet, but a splurge will most likely be the famous Britax Marathon 2brides mentioned.  Otherwise - the crib, strollers and infant car seats we like are very reasonably priced.  And we'll be getting a hand-me-down cosleeper (which would otherwise be a bit of a splurge).

I know I'm not a mom yet, but from nannying, the one must-have item that comes to mind is a bjorn or other baby carrier.  It was so great to be able to hold the baby and have both hands free.  That, and a portable diaper change station - a basket or something that can easily be moved around the house that has everything you need for a diaper change in it. If I had had to go back to the changing table for every change - I would have been exhausted.

I'm so glad to hear that the girls are doing well!  And the dancing can be a good release for the two of you as well!

  • Nothing new to report... just waiting for my period to end so we can get going on this month.

QOTW: I'm coveting a Bumbleride Indie (jogging stroller)... it is expensive, but we're probably going to end up getting it.

  • t minus 6 days until my beta.  It can't get her soon enough! I feel like AF is going to start anyday now...but I know with Prometrium it'll likely be delayed.  What a cruel mind game.

QOTD: nada.  I'm not going there yet.  Sure I browse strollers/cribs/carseats, etc....but I'm not picking any must haves until I'm actually pregnant.

  • We're waiting, waiting, and more waiting.  Double TWW sucks.

QOTD: i dont think i have any....we went frugal with all of our purchases. I have a few more wants (like the jeep stroller), but they are all pretty inexpensive.  i'm sure the completely not practical desires will come out when i have an actual baby to dress and spoil :P

  • Update: I've started the Cl*mid for this round (150 mg this time, since I only made one semi-mature egg last cycle at 100 mg). The hot flashes drove me crazy last night, but like I told S: it's worth it! We go in for a follie check next Wed.

Also, we used Freedom pharmacy for the trigger this round instead of the one we used last cycle, and I am so pleased. The exact same script was half the price of the place we used last time, and it arrived the next day via FedEx.

I'll have to answer the QOTD later, since S just IMed me to meet her for lunch. :)

  • As I posted on the other board, we are doing our first IUI in about 5-6 weeks.  I am going on a low dose of Clomid, 25mg.  We've narrowed our donor choices down to 2 and are pretty much decided on one of the 2 because he has curly hair.

We REALLY want this bamboo crib that I found online, it's 100% eco-friendly and will last forever.  The downside is that it's $1,700...  Needless to say, we aren't going to get it.

I would DEFINITELY go with a portable swing.  I bought one for my daughter when she was born 5 years ago and it was a godsend.  It helped her to fall asleep easier, it gave me time to clean while keeping her in a safe place, it was easy to carry and it was small.  I had a Fisher Price swing.

  • I'm back. :)

QOTD: Well, only since you said impractical (my biggest "covet" item is a nice car seat), I would have to say a Blabla doll. Especially this one. I don't know why, but they make me smile.

Duchess-- Glad to hear you had a good day. Hang in there and hopefully all the good days will start to string together.
2brides-- I hope the childcare woes start to resolve themselves soon. Too bad you had to stay home, but at least it's a beautiful day today!

Best wishes for everyone in the tww!!

  • we are waiting and waiting...we DID decide to get a beta this Friday....so we can have some time together over the weekend rather than on Tuesday when I need to go out of town. waiting is hard. coveting anything stokke....but especially the bassinet we say in a local furniture store. It's a grand I think...so unlikely we will get one...but it is oh so delicious.
  • Thought I'd creep out of lurkdom to respond to the QOTD...

Our splurge that has turned out to be soooo worth it was a set of Aden and Anais swaddling blankets. They are oversized and the ONLY ones that will keep him swaddled all night. He busts out of the miracle blanket in minutes! Also, they are lightweight so I don't worry about them adding too much heat on top of his sleepers. In hindsight, I would have paid double for them.?

?A couple other things that might seem splurge-y in that one could get by without them (although I can't imagine how!) are:

    (1) Itzbeen timer: This is probably my #1 recommendation for new parents. Sleep deprivation completely warps your sense of time. Sometimes I will swear I fed him a half hour ago and I'll check and it's been over two. Also, it has been a godsend in keeping track of his medication dosing times.

    (2) Fitted cloth diapers (vs. prefolds): I don't know if anyone is considering cloth but these have been sooo worth the extra investment. We use bumgenius bamboo fitteds and they are so easy and wonderful. The AIOs are very easy too but the fitteds are cheaper and I actually prefer them a bit.?

  • As a mommy of one who just turned 3 yesterday, I'll weigh in on the QOTW.  I have the Britax Marathon carseat and LOVE it.  I love that it will last her a long time and I won't have to buy ANOTHER carseat.  And for something that seems kinda spoiling (but not overly expensive) a wipes warmer.  There's nothing like wiping a bummy at 3am with a cold wipe...get a wipe warmer, you'll appreciate it too.  And even though we are potty trained now, those warm wipes are FANTASTIC for cleaning up all kinds of toddler messes! Smile

I'm glad to see you all are still posting here.  I am not PCP/TTC/ATP, but I like to read your updates and am crossing fingers for all of you who are.  And I can't seem to go to the other board at my work it's blocked by their screening software.  But amazingly I can get to this board...go figure!!!

  • my general update is that we have our monthly appointment with the OB this afternoon. this is our first checkup of the second trimester, and i'm honestly a little nervous even though everything seems to be happening just the way it should. but i expect i'll kind of feel this way about all of them. it's like i'm so excited, but the closer we get to the appointments the more nervous i get.

qotw: i'm not sure there's anything we're really coveting at this point, let alone anything impractical. we've looked at a few things but really haven't started trying to pick things out yet. i'm sure we need to start doing that relatively soon, huh?

ATP stands for "All Things Parenting," so you definitely "qualify". Wink
