Hiking/Outdoor Activities

My husband and I have been talking about taking advantage of the great weather by going hiking more often and planning more outdoor activities.  Do any of you know of any good hiking locations/routes?  How do you stay active outside?  I would love any and all recommendations!

Re: Hiking/Outdoor Activities

  • I love hiking! I'm used to camping/hiking in more forested areas, but there are plenty of good places in SD. I recently went up to Cowels Mountain, across from SDSU. It's short hike, but uphill so it's a little more difficult, but an amazing  360 view of all of SD!!

Here's some others: (but ceratinly not close to all!)

  • I have hiked at Mission Trails and thought it was a great time.  There is also a short "hike" at Cabrillo National Monument that I went on and thought it was fun, it is considered a super easy hike, but it was pretty.
  • Thanks for the suggestions!  I was just thinking about suggesting a hike as a nestie get together instead of the typical dinner and drinks type thing.  It's definitely healthier and I'd like to do some more exploring.  Would you be interested in something like that?

  • I think that's a great idea and would totally try to be there!
  • Mission Trails, Lake Hodges (actually, since the fires I'm not sure how much of it is accessible anymore.. boo), Lake Poway, Cowles Mtn., all over Julian, Miramar Lake (right by my house and I've never been.. how lame!), Los Penasquitos Canyon, Torrey Pines

  • Camping! We do a big annual fishing/camping trip near Cuyamaca every year, it's so much fun.

  • I've hiked Cowles Mtn before and enjoyed it.  Recently I've been biking and walking Lake Murray which has a nice well paved path.  I also like Torrey Pines.
  • I think a hiking GTG is a great idea!

  • Thanks again for all the suggestions!  I'm going to make a goal of trying out one of the trails this weekend and I'll post again to let you know how it went.  Also, since a few of you showed interest in a hiking get together, I'll start another thread on it and maybe we can make some concrete plans.

  • I am SO on board for this.  Me and hubbs just went camping at Cuyamaca, and decided we want to hike up Stonewall Peak!  I just bought hiking boots last weekend in order to start motivating myself.

If you plan anything for hiking GTG (DH would like like it too if we do something that involves SOs!)

  • Annie: I think it would be a great idea to have our significant others attend!  I'll add that to the separate thread I started about a hiking get-together.  I know my husband would love to come also.
