Using Bare Minerals to make your own tinted moisturizer?

Has anyone tried this? How well did it turn out, and how much of the loose powder did you mix in?

I'm going to try adding BM to my Aveeno spf 30 facial moisturizer, and I'd appreciate any tips.

TIA!

You may also try looking on Make Up Alley for info on this and to see how well it worked. I would be somewhat hesitant about trying before getting a ton of info just b/c that is kind of expensive stuff to "waste" if it turns out to be a disaster.
  • I don't use Bare Minerals (allergic to an ingredient)...but I do this with my mineral makeup.  Sometimes the kabuki brush irritates my skin...so I frequently mix facial moisturizer with some of the mineral makeup (loose powder).  It takes a bit to get a hang of how much you need and how much lotion to add.
  • PS.  It turned out well (I think) and the amount of powder depends on how much coverage you want.  I think you use quite a bit less than you would if you weren't mixing it with lotion.

ETA: I mix it on a daily basis...I don't mix a whole batch of it at once.

  • I made a mess, but gave it a try! I discovered that if I don't spread the mixture over my skin quickly enough, it will kind of flake off. Otherwise, it worked quite well!

  • I tried this but I've found the makeup stays on better when I layer... ?Might depend on the moisturizer you use.
  • Also try mixing a little lotion or even water to your mineral makeup powder. They are designed to be able to be used as a liquid or powder.
However, here's a makeup line that's the equivalent to BareMinerals but a lot cheaper. It's hypoallergenic just like BM & the same exact colors & ingredients are used. This mineral line gives you 30g of makeup for $11.99 & BareMinerals makeup is 16g for around $35. Go to www.etsy.com/shop/MineralFace it's all natural, organic mineral makeup for less! If you've used BareMinerals, you will love this one, as it's the EXACT same but 2x the makeup for 1/3 the cost!
  • Also - you may have been allergic to an ingredient BareMinerals used to use, Bismuth, which is a filler. They stopped using it bc it's a filler & not hypoallergenic or good for your skin. Even though BM removed this ingredient, a lot of other mineral makeup lines have not bc fillers are cheaper. Be careful, read ingredients & only buy all natural, organic makeup.
