anyone buy appliances from Appliance Direct/Scratch and Dent World?
The house we are putting an offer in on does not come with appliances. So we would need to buy a range, fridge, dishwasher, and washer/dryer. Any experiences with these places? Are the appliances really brand new? Is it worth having to rent a truck to transport them?
Re: anyone buy appliances from Appliance Direct/Scratch and Dent World?
Thanks for posting this kokomama! I would like to get everyone's feed back as well... we have a few appliances that we will have to buy if this home goes through!
I can tell you that hh Gregg has a stainless steel package (fridge, oven, microwave, dishwasher and a 19inch lcd tv (for free)) that is going for $2k this weekend... I'm hoping they will offer the same package around 4th of July.... since we might know by then... it normally retails for $3k! Plus you are getting a free lcd tv with the appliance package!
I bought my washer and dryer from Appliance Direct. Honestly they are nothing that special. We got a mismatched set since they are in the garage we don't care, they are both white so unless you look close and see they are different brands you can't tell. I did some comparison shopping and Appliance Direct prices were not that much better than Sears. I think it was $50 max. diff. in price and that was mainly in the delivery/set up
I think their ss appliances can be good, we did see some ss fridges w/ the french doors and pull out freezer drawer that were priced well compared to brand new. Its also hit or miss, you have to go and really look at the stuff because their inventory is constantly changing and if you see one you like that looks good then you need to buy it then because if you go back it might be gone.
I think if you do some shopping around you can find deals that will beat appliance direct, you can't beat the deal about that KAandJJ mentioned. Customer service was nothing to write home about either. Also check craigslist, while not always brand new my inlaws got a really nice ss fridge for a great price.
ETA: Appliance Direct requires that they deliver our washer & dryer, they claimed that in order to comply w/ the manufacturers warranty they have to hook it up. So that whole if you have a truck you are the man stuff, only applies to certain appliances.
Last year we purchased a fridge, washer and dryer from Appliance Direct. I found them to be the cheapest for brand new appliances all around Orlando.
We bought a Maytag counter depth Ice2O stainless fridge, brand new (not in box). I had one minor dent on the side, but we have a wall there. It retailed for $2700, we bought it for $900! You can find deals if you don't mind little issues. The front of our fridge has no issues, it looks perfectly brand new.
We also purchased LG front load washer and dryers, we did go with ones that were a little more scratched (not in box) because it was in a closed off room of the house, but by no means do they look bad at all, after taking them home and a little magic eraser, they look almost perfect.
I would definately recommend checking them out.
Jen
That's a great deal, and it's exactly what we're looking for. Too bad we don't know yet if we have the house. I'm hoping they run some kind of good Father's Day sale, because we would need to purchase the appliances before we close, hopefully by the end of June.
Thanks for your input, everyone!
WE DID!! We bought a Whirpool fridge a few months ago, at the last scratch/dent sale..LOVE IT!! THere is NOTHING wrong w/it..the "scratch" is lower side, and the cabinets hide it! We paid $500 bucks for it, and it retailed at Lowes for $1000..I would definitly check it out! They have warrenty's on them. I really want a new range and I am so tempted to hit the S&D sale in Winter Garden but we just renovated the bathroom and so I feel it would be irresponsible to spend some money right now until we are "officially" done!
