DH and I have a week off in May and have been so busy that we haven't made any plans, consequently now we're thinking about a road trip to explore another part of the southwest - the limitations are:
1) we don't have a ton of money (so no plane tickets to Hawaii)
2) DH's passport is expired (so not Mexico)
We've been to Sedona and the Grand Canyon, and went to undergrad in So Cal so we've done San Deigo/LA area. My priority is a pool/beach to lay on and chill out, DH's priority is some kind of outdoor activity like hiking or biking.
Any suggestions? We'd go back to places we've been, but are also interested in seeing something new. Thanks for your ideas!
Re: Road Trip Suggestions?
We're going to Colorado this summer and on the way there we're planning on spending some time driving around northern New Mexico. Specifically the area north of Santa Fe, around Taos. I saw some pictures on a travel show and it looked pretty so we decided to explore.
Areas of southern Utah are supposed to be cool for outdoor stuff (like Zion National Park, Lake Powell, etc.)
Those are great suggestions
DH brought up Aravaipa Canyon Ranch - anyone been?
What about Sonoita or Elgin for the wine stuff that they do in the spring? Or maybe Joshua Tree or the Four corners areas for camping? It depends on what you guys like. Lake Powell is fun especially if you have the cash for a house boat.
Staying at a BandB would be fun too... or in a cabin? There are lots of things to do... can you do Baja without a passport? I think so, but I'm not sure.
Have fun!
I've stayed at Aravaipa Ranch. It's nestled in a canyon with the best views. The house is great - it's HUGE. Waaay to big for just two people (or not)
It's neat to get the little "studio" for added coziness. My BF and her husband rented the whole thing for their 1st anniversary and I've been there with her on retreats.
We went in April (06) and there was a good amount of water to sit by and wade in. I would have loved to rent the place for our upcoming wedding. It's very sweet.
They had to rebuild/remodel after a massive flooding - so it's probably better than ever.
