Re: anyone been to a wedding at any of these places?

  • I had my rehersal dinner at the lighthouse inn and they did an awesome job.  The service was great and the food was so tastey.  They did a custom menu for us, we had a lobster bake.  It is very pretty there as well.  There is pequot chapel right around the corner from the inn and it has tiffany windows there and is neat if she is looking for a ceremony location.

I have been to a reception and stayed at the Hilton.  The wedding was pretty good as far as food goes, nothing really stands out in my mind.  The room was so so, it had mold on the ceiling and our room wasn't ready until 5pm.  I wasn't too pleased about that since we had traveled to go there.

My husband has been to events at the Mystic Marriot and loved both the rooms and the reception, plus they have a spa too!

  • I've been to all 3 but not for weddings.  I've used the spa at Mystic Marriott (which is actually in Groton) and one of my friends worked there, it's a relatively new hotel so the rooms are nice and they have a good ballroom.

Personally I'd favor the Lighthouse Inn because it doesn't have just that average "hotel" feel.  It's more New England, outdoorsy, etc.  With the other two they are nice but not exceptional as pp said.

  • The only thing I don't like about the Lighthouse is that if your party is large enough then people end up in another room of sorts.

I love the Marriot but can see what pp is saying about the hotel feel. Hilton just got bought by new management late last year so it may be different. (I know there was some renovations done.)

  • We had our ceremony and reception at the Lighthouse Inn. We loved everything about it and I'd highly recommend them. Our ceremony and cocktail hour were on the lawn and the reception was in the mansion. The food was fabulous and the staff was very easy to work with and very accommodating. One of the things we loved most about it is the uniqueness of the mansion - we didn't have to do much to the space. Most of our guests (including my family) were OOT and the rooms at the Lighthouse Inn are gorgeous. We did also book rooms at other hotels in New London at lower price points since the hotel is a bit expensive. As for pp comment about guests being in a separate room the 2 rooms that receptions are held in are separated by pocket doors that slide all the way back opening up the rooms. Our guest list was small enough to accommodate everyone in one room and have the dance floor in the other but it wouldn't have been a big problem to have had tables in both rooms.

Feel free to page me with any other questions!

  • Thanks everyone for your help :)
  • DH and I stayed at the Mystic Marriott and SPa for our first annivesary.  I've never been to a wedding there but the hotel was very nice.  The inside was nicely decorated and the rooms were nice too.  They were very accommodating to us.  DH had them put a beautiful bouquet of roses in our bedroom and he got s room service with delicious chocolate coverd strawberries and fresh fruit. It was wonderful.
  • This  is totally unrelated but did your DH got to the Avon Old Farms school class of 2001 or 02?

    He looks familiar!

  • No, he graduated from Farmington High in 98 Big Smile
  • We had our wedding at the Inn at Mystic (not on your list) - but It was absolutely gorgeous and the Wedding Planner was truly a wedding planner.

Most of our guests stayed at the Mystic Hilton and we had an after party there in the bar. It was okay - nothing spectacular and the place was under construction (they did not tell me about the construction when I blocked the rooms a few months in advance). To be honest, I thought it was a little pricey for what we got.

Mystic Marriot - awesome! I wanted to have our guests stay here and do the after party here too but all the rooms were completely booked way in advance. It's gorgeous, great restaurants and they have an Elizabeth Arden Spa. My entire bridal party got hair/make-up done there for the wedding. It was expensive but everyone was happy.
