Any Peoria Nesties here?

We're considering moving to Peoria to be closer to DH's aging parents, and was wondering if you could help me out. Is there a good online source for jobs in Peoria? I checked Careerbuilder and Monster and didn't see much in my field (graphic design).

Also, what parts of Peoria have newer neighborhoods and young families?

Thanks!

Happy mom to two sweet, silly boys: Cohen age 4, AJ age 2.

Re: Any Peoria Nesties here?

  • I am new to the Peoria area as I moved here  from Omaha right before our wedding in December.  I have been lucky enough to keep my job from Omaha and work from a home office, but I have been looking for other options as my current position requires a lot of travel and I'm ready to slow down a little bit.  I have been frustrated by the job market here in Peoria.  IT seems like there is an abundance of nursing, engineering and manufactoring jobs, but there are slim pickings for everything else.  You may want to go to the Journal Star (newspaper) website and check out the Sunday classified posting.  They link to the hotjobs.com website for thier posts.

As for the neighborhoods, it seems like most people are choosing the surrounding towns - Dunlap, Washington, Morton - instead of in Peoria.  We are on the NW side by Shoppes at Grand Prairie and it has spurts of new development around it.

  • Yeah that there is another Peoria nestie here! :)  I thought I was always going to be alone on the QCA board. There might be more Peoria nesties on here that are lurking ;)

As PP said... Morton, Washington, Dunlap... Chillicothe is a newer town that seems to be building up more with decent schools. We ended up building a house in East Peoria, close to Morton, and love it!

Check out www.peoriahelpwanted.com for more job thoughts. The town is pretty much run by the 3 hospitals, Caterpillar, and Caterpillar contractors!

Let us know if there are any other questions. GL!

  • Thanks for the input Crash (A DMB fan by chance??)!

So nice to see some draw of Peoria interest on here.

  • Yes I wish Peoria would get it's own board too... or at least call it a Central Illinois board! I doubt The Nest would do it since there isn't much traffic from the Peoria folks it seems :(
  • I moved to Peoria about a year ago after my wedding and so far have really enjoyed it!  I would agree the job market mainly focuses on CAT and the hospitals.  I would suggest going straight to the companies websites to find jobs--the Journal Star doesn't offer much.

As for where to live--as everyone said Morton, Dunlap, Washington-small towns like that are nice.  We live in Peoria and I really like it because there is so much to do.  There are plenty of cute areas in the city with nice houses.  If you want you can email me or reply to me and I can help you out with more specific area names--We just bought our house a year ago so I am pretty current with good/bad neighborhoods.
