Lake Bluff, anyone?

dh and i may or may not be buying a house in the near future...  and if we do decide to buy, i think we'll have to suck it up and move to the suburbs, because dh is getting antsy for some grass, peace, and quiet.    So far, we like Lake Bluff.   Its really far away though, so that's an issue.   But the houses are cute, the lake is right there, it seems like it has a lot of amenities for residents...

does anyone live there?  or did anyone grow up there?   or just know anything about the feel, pros, or cons of the community?     thanks!!!

Re: Lake Bluff, anyone?

  • I lived and worked in Lake Forest last year, which is right next door. IMO, Lake Bluff is nice because the property taxes are a little lower, and the homes are cute. Lake Bluff also feeds into LFHS, which is a great school. The school district up there is a good one, and the shopping in the area is also pretty nice. It's also really close to the interstate and other areas--Vernon Hills and Lincolnshire, and both have tons of shopping and food and activities and are very family friendly.
  • We rented an appt in Lake Bluff for two years, but didn't really "get" into the community. We have friends that recently bought in Lake Bluff and they love it.
  • My dad and I worked in Lake Bluff for quite a few years and I also lived in the neighboring city of Rondout/Libertyville, just east of the 90/94 tollway.

Lake Bluff is great... not too much out there but its quiet, residential and nice. It kinda reminds me of the neighborhood when Ferris Beuller was filmed in (although I believe it was filmed in Winnetka, just south of Lake Bluff).

  • Two couples that we are close with moved to Lake Bluff when they had children.  In one couple, both of them grew up in Lake Forest.  In the other couple, the guy grew up in Libertville and the girl in Arlington Heights. They were looking for communities that were a lot like how they grew up and found that in Lake Bluff.  They are very happy there, their neighboorhoods are lovely, and they plan to stay forever.  The school district is fantastic, too- if that matters to you.  They researched it thoroughly, and a grad school classmate of mine (completing a degree in Education Administration) had been teaching in the Dist for 5 yrs., loved it and planned to stay for good.

Nothing bad to report here : )

It's a beautiful area- I would move there in a heartbeat if it weren't so far from our jobs.  One note- if you were planning on commuting to a workplace further south, you'd have to find a way to avoid the Edens, at least for the summer....
