Does your DH ever cook? If so, is he a good cook? What are his best dishes? What are his worst?
My dh makes amazing chicken in the oven. He made chicken thighs last night and oh my Jebus they were heavenly! They were so tender and perfectly seasoned and the meat was just falling off the bone.
But sometimes he makes an absolute flop, like this weekend he made shrimp and rice, and instead of the desireable result which would be for the rice to taste like shrimp, in the end EVERYTHING just tasted like plain rice. It was gross eating a shrimp that only tasted like plain rice. *gag*.
Re: Today's Question: 5/27
Mine is a better cook than me.
He makes a really good red chili, green pork chili, and bbq meatballs.
I'm the one messing up dinner all the time
Dh will help out and cook. I tend to make more of the dinner meals and he tends to handle breakfast on the weekends. Dh tries to be creative but a lot of time the meal is a miss. I remember in college he was so excited he made a "dessert" it was corn tortilla with strawberry applesauce on top. Which he warmed it up. It was super nasty and I could not eat it and he looked so crushed. Dh also likes to help me out if I have any baking to do and he likes to experiment and make jams. He does make a yummy burger. So I give him points for trying
Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha.
Ha.
Ha.
No.
He will make himself eggs and bacon. And in the process destroy the kitchen. Before we got married he took pride in being able to make his meat, starch and veggies in one pot and then eat them with the cooking utensil in said pot. I think that he's made us one dinner in the last year. It was blah. He does like to pick out recipes for ME to cook. That's about as far as it goes....

So excited to meet Amelia Catherine!
DH is in culinary school atm. He is an incredible cook and does about all of our cooking. I love just about everything he makes. The only thing I can even think of that wasn't fabulous was his tomato soup and that's because I like it super creamy and his was more brothy.
This made me giggle and remember DH and my first Valentines day. We had only been dating a couple weeks and he invited me to dinner at his place for valentines day. Boyfriends in the past had done this with some real expertise... Steak, shrimp, or had the meal catered etc.
So I show up as he was finishing cooking.
He had boiled rice... then thrown in a bag of frozen mixed veggies, and a can of chicken chunks, and salted it. (Meat, starch, and veggies in one pot.)
He served it with a measuring cup onto a paper plate. I cried so hard when I got home that night, I was SOOO disappointed. I almost didn't go out with him again after that.
ETA: I should add that he has gotten MUCH better at cooking since then, and he honestly did think he was making a nice meal for me. His flop with the rice and shrimp dish this weekend was kind of a fluke, though I am still amazed that he thought it was tasty. BUT he has made a lot of progress.
I love it! Chris would so have done this. The only time I remember him cooking just for me was a Valentines breakfast..... he made me Cinnamon rolls AND French toast because he remembered that I liked both. It took him over an hour to cook.
Our husbands NEED to meet.
Last night I was SUPER lazy and made hamburger helper (Gross I know).
It was beef lasagna (grosser, I know).
DH comes over and smells and goes "MMM that smells good, can we throw some veggies in too???"
NO you one-pot freak, we can not! You can eat a separate salad like a civilized human being!
I thought about you last night.
I made a gorgeous chicken parm with egg noodles. Chris says "do you think you could have thrown some broccoli into that?" Doh.
Mine is wonderful.
90% of the time, whatever he cooks is delicious. Unfortuantely for my figure...his best cooking involves frying or lots of butter. I never liked fried cubed steak before meeting him, but his is delicious and he makes the best mashed potatoes and pot roast. His wonderful cooking has led me to gain 40 lbs :-(
However, its not all good. Lately he's taken to watching the food network 24/7. He ends up experimenting a lot more, which isn't always good. He'll try to do things to make meat more flavorful, and it usually backfires. Or he goes overboard with something. Last night he made burgers and put a WHOLE bulb of chopped garlic into it along with half of a large vidalia onion. The burgers couldn't hold together. Normally his burgers are great, but he's been watching TV and they put "some" onions and "some" garlic into their burgers.
DH is a better cook than I am. He can whip things up whereas I need a recipe, measuring cups, and explicit instructions (though my meals turn out well too!).
He makes good spaghetti sauce, meatballs, and shrimp scampi!
