in home childcare rates

What do you pay for in home childcare per day or week?

Re: in home childcare rates

  • We hired a local teenager to come to our house from 3pm-6pm. We pay $4/hr.
  • Sorry, maybe I should have been more specific! We're planning on sending baby to an in home daycare instead of a large center.
  • I've heard that $30/day is the average for in home in my area.
  • When we send A to the in-home daycare we go to its $3/hr.
  • We pay $150/week, but we get a discount. It's usually $220/week for full time.

  • I have been looking around at daycares lately, and am getting rates from $150 - $215/week.  The average is about $175 though.  The rates for centers around here are crazy!  The two I've called were $300/week!
  • Sam goes 3 days a week and it's $100.  Her full time rate is $150 a week.

Like pp said, center rates are crazy.  My sister just reserved a spot for her LO at a center and it's $250 a week for full time.

  • I live in Wauwatosa and pay $35 per day.  I've seen it average around $30-50 per day.
  • Center rates are crazy, but you usually get what you pay for.  I like the structure, kids all his age, socialization,  meal plan and most of all the reliability of knowing that no one is ever going to call in sick or go on vacation that I am stuck.

I have a friend who does in home with her kids and she would trade her person for the world, but most of her vacation and sick time is taken up by the DCP not being able to work on a day for any number of reasons. She pays $25 per day per child.

When it came to choosing that is some of the things I thought about.  It came down to DS only needing to go a few days a week so we could afford the center.  If I had to work in my office more and have full time I probably would have been easier swayed to the price of in home.

  • We switched DD's daycare about a year ago when I changed jobs.  She was at a center that was $245/week for infant care.  I checked centers and local in-homes.  The in-homes were $5-6/hour, which actually ended up being more than the center rates.  DD's center was $220/week up to age 2.  That reminds me, she just turned 3, so our rate should go down again.  ($205/week from 2-3 years, and $183/week for 3+ years)
