What do you think....Sandestin beach house rental for September
Hi Ladies-
I'm from Houston and thought it might be a good idea to get your feedback on the location of a beach house we are thinking about renting for a week this September.
It's in Sandestin and the house is right on the beach.....

Your thoughts? Great location? I've also found another one that is in Rosemary Beach and has it's own pool.
THANKS IN ADVANCE for any feedback/advice.

This is probably the wrong board to ask, since this is mostly Central Florida ladies, but I used to live in Destin, so I can comment for you. It's a good area. You are east of Destin, almost right across from the Factory Outlet stores. And depending on when you are going in September, you shouldn't have horrible traffic, or lots of other tourists. If you are going over Labor Day weekend, be prepared to face traffic nightmares if you want to drive anywhere!
There is a grocery store within walking distance (Winn Dixie is on the corner where Old 98 and New 98 come back together) and there is also a Liquor Store, and Pharmacy if you need it. Lots of shopping nearby at the Factory Outlet and the Commons which is west of where you will be staying, closer back to Destin, or in Sandestin at Baytowne Wharf.
If you have kids and need some entertainment, The Track is a small amusement center in Destin, and Big Kahuna's is a fun waterpark in Destin. But, personally, nothing beats the beautiful beaches up there. Save a day for Seaside - a lot of fun, and beautiful. If you go to the beach, go near The Whale's Tail or the Crab Trap which are both on old Hwy 98. Great places to eat lunch.
For restaurants, I must insist that you go to Harbor Docks in downtown Destin. It's right on the water, and the fish they serve is generally whatever was caught that day. You can go early, sit on the deck, and watch the boats come in. If you decide to do a 1/2 day or full day fishing charter, many of the restaurants will cook your catch. Also, try Graffiti's/the Funky Blues Shack (the original one in downtown Destin, NOT the one in Sandestin Bayside Wharf). Great, fairly cheap American/Italian food, and a funky atmosphere. Also try La Paz, a great Mexican restaurant that uses local seafood in their dishes (also in downtown Destin).
A final place I must insist you go to is the Donut Hole, whether you go to the one in downtown Destin, or the one that is east of where you are staying. They have the YUMMIEST breakfasts anywhere on the planet, but also have great comfort foods. I think Wednesday is chicken and dumplings, and is to die for. They were clients of mine, and I still visit them anytime I get back to the area - try the diet plate or the blue crab omelet. Be prepared to wait if you go on the weekend or the week during Labor Day, and they only take cash or checks, no credit cards.
All of the above mentioned places are on Hwy 98, with the exception of La Paz, which is just off 98.
Hope this helps and hope you enjoy your trip - I am so jealous!!
soccerbride - thank you so very much!!! i'm copying and pasting this now!!! we'll definitely hit up a lot of the places you recommended.
Silly me ... I forgot to mention the Red Bar in Grayton Beach. Hole in the wall that locals love. Lunch, Drinks or Dinner and they usually have live music in the evenings, especially on the weekends, and a cute little shopping area right around Red Bar.
Also, if you go to Seaside, we always liked to grab a picnic lunch and bottle of wine from Modica Market. Go have lunch down on the beach (wine, cheese, bread, some lunch meat, some fruit, mmmmm) and then do some shopping.
Enjoy!
