Hi Everyone, Do you mind if I pick your brains for a minute? My FI and I and considering relocating to SC but we're having trougle with the finances of it. We currently live in Maine where we bought a fixer upper last year for 167900.00 (2bed 1.5 bath) my fiance currently makes around 33.50 an hour. In moving to SC we would be able to get so much better of a house for what we spent now, but he would be making a lot less (from what I understand) He's a forklift driver in a warehouse up here and has been for almost 7 years. I guess what I'm trying to figure out is if it really balances out to take a large cut in pay if you cost of living is less... does this make any sense I feel like I'm rambling! haha, any help for the confused?

Re: Relocating Info
I don't know about Maine, per se, but I do know that SC has lower rents than, say DC. When I lived in DC and then moved back home to SC, the other expenses (food, gas, utilities, etc.) were probably a little less but not a huge difference. Well, I take that back, the gas was a lot cheaper here.
Just out of curiousity, to which area are you thinking of moving? Somewhere like Charleston is going to be a lot more expensive than Greenville or Spartanburg, for example. However, unemployment is pretty high in SC, so that's definitely something to consider, too.
If you're looking at the upstate, he could make decent money. There are multiple companies that supply parts to the BMW plant, and they are generally hiring fork lift drivers and they are paid pretty well.
We moved here from dc and took a big pay cut, but for us it was still totally worth it because of the difference in cost of living.
