*dnagal* How was the polo?
DH and I were coming back Saturday from Brooklyn on the Ikea ferry and saw all the military helicopters out near the Governors Island ferry pier, ready to whisk Prince Harry away. What was the match like?
Re: *dnagal* How was the polo?
It was fun! Gorgeous day for starters! And Governor's Island itself was beautiful! Awesome place to go for an afternoon picnic and walk around, I think they're having events there throughout the summer, in fact this weekend is a mini-Jazz festival ($5).
The polo match was super fun! We got there about a 1/2 before the start and got a blanket spot right near the pitch (free!) The crowd watching was absolutely HILARIOUS!! Women dressed like they are VIPS, but on blankets on the grass in the free section-- 4 inch heels, cocktail dresses, fancy hats and all----sweating their A$$es off! And the guys too---summer suits. I'm imagining they were planning on meeting the prince. (ha ha!)
Anyhoo, I did see Prince Harry throughout the match, as he was playing--so I saw him ride back, and forth, and back again, and oo there he is again! He seemed pretty good, but I am completely unqualified to judge Polo skills. We left about half way through, Nora'd had enough, and we'd satisfied our curiosity. (everyone did go on the pitch to stomp the divets, but we left right before then) All in all it was a fantastic afternoon and I'd seriously consider going again next year!
And, we'll definitely be heading back to Governor's island for more summer fun!
